[RESOLVED] USB ports stooped working

I have recently had a few gremlins in my PC. as soon as I cure one, along comes another one.

:redeyes: This one involved the USB ports on the mother board and the front USB ports along with my Mitsumi floppy drive and 7 in 1 card reader.

The question is how can I reactivated my card reader along with the front USB ports. There was no driver disk with this item as it was plug and play. The floppy drive is working fine.

I have recently reactivated the USB port on the mother board by reloading the support disk.

I am beginning to think that there is a unknown virus in the system but each time I have scanned the system with Norton Anti Virus it dose not show anything up. I also do a regular sweep with Webroot SpySweeper on a weekly time scale.

Found this information on a web search using MonsterCrawler.Hope it helps Terry.

1. Unplug everything and open the case.
2. Clear the CMOS
3. Unplug the USB connector on the Motherboard next to the CMOS reset switch then plug it back in.
4. Reboot
5. Go into Windows XP; all your USB devices should work now.
6. Reboot, go into the BIOS and put your settings back to the way you had them before.

Download Ewido and scan with it it will find what norton will not. It is a free
download and it updates for a couple of day`s. but of course with all
good software it is not free after so many day`s. I found trojan horse with Ewido. give it a try. :)

For additional scan for the spyware and malware
i 'll also suggest that you scan with

hijackthis :rolleyes:

and VundoFix .

There is also smithfraud .

But go here you'll see alot info there and send your scan reports to them to help you fix your problems. :kiss:

street1 are you out there.

I had done everything that you first suggested and that did not work.

I used the spy-ware program that you had recommended it did find 6 spy-wares that Spy Sweeper did not detect.

I have got things working agian after about 4 hours work the card readers are back on line.

I think that the problem was with the Microsoft XP OS, there must have been a corrupt file some where, I had purchased a up grade disk to up graded the lap top I use, so I used that disk to upgrade the XP OS on desk top but things appear to working fine at this time.

I only have four items in the device manager and they are as follows.

1. SCSI/RAID HOST CONTROLLER.
2. VIA SATA RAID CONTROLLER.
3. SCSI ADAPTER.
4. VIA SATA RAID CONTROLLER.

if you can help on these matters you will be a great help if you could advise me as to where the drivers are.

I have found one off the the missing drivers it just leave me three to find and they are as follows.

:redeyes: 1. SCSI/RAID HOST CONTROLLER.
2. VIA SATA RAID CONTROLLER.
3. SCSI ADAPTER. :redeyes:

if any one out there knows where to find them please could you let me know.
