DDR2 Ram

Don't have much experience with this stuff yet... I've been hearing mixed ideas... some say it is not backwards compatibly.... don't mean to ddr mean as in ddr2-800 to ddr2-667 to ddr2-533 etc..... I've also heard the new AM-2 processors are a bit finicky and you need to get the lower latency stuff... Also heard that they have compatiblity issues with some chipsets etc.... anyone deal with this on a regular basis?

we usually aren't on the leading edge and well I'll still running my P233mmx ( well I do have a sempron 2600+ or is it a 2800+ ) and havn't gotten into the real new stuff myself either...

oh I did a google search but trying to wade through all that stuff and then some being dated and some not....

DDR1 and DDR2 have different pin counts, so are not backward compatible. There are MB's though that have both DDR1 & 2 slots, so you can buy or use what you prefer. As far as being particular about RAM, MB's are, so best use good, reliable named stuff like Corsair/Cruicial/Kingston that are not much more expensive that no-name Generic stuff.

DDR2 will also show much higher timings, as compared to the DDR1 memory, but they are clocked much faster.

I knew ddr2 is not backwards to ddr1 but what about ddr2-800 and ddr2-533 will it just clock back? I've heard both answers to that one... I've also heard it depends....

thanks for that article but again it seems to indicate it is before ddr2 became so popular and so is probably based on theory and not experience.... I've found articles like that but nothing say from this year or talk about how memory works with todays stuff....

The only recent thing I found said that 5-5-5-15 timings are fine for intel but a bit to laggy for amd socket am-2.
