Mouse lag during games

I've recently upgraded loads of computer parts.
I have an Asrock 939 board, an amd x2 3800, and a bfg 7900 GTX, a SB live sound card, and 1gb of ram.

The card is obviously very good, but the problem is, during playing games, like Oblivion for instance, there is a lot of mouse lag, and mini freezes, not all the time, but it's there, it also crashes a lot, and when I turn it off after long periods of play, it crashes again, or just takes ages to return to my desktop. When I play doom 3, I get the same mouse lag, and some graphical smudging. It doesn't matter what resolution I play them on, I get the same problems, and even with maxed out graphics, I get great frames, but still have the mouse lag, jittering, freezing, and crashes.

I don't see a good reason why my system would do this, it's brand new, and decent enough to handle these games, so what could be going wrong?
I've ruled out sound being an issue, but I'm not an expert, I don't know what to check or how to remedy it.

How about some info on the mouse please? Optical? USB? PS2? Wireless? How old? Make/Model?

It's a razer diamond, 1 year old, but it can't be the mouse, as it works fine for other games.

Try this:

Right click your screen somewhere NOT on an icon - then click properties. Setting, Advanced and Troubleshoot as they appear and set the hardware acceleration slider back a bit.

You can try lowering the settings on your card.

Riight click your screen, properties, Settings, Advanced, click on your graphics card, select performance & quality settings, image settings and move slider to performance.

edit: you can temporarilly shut off anisotropic filtering and antialiasing as well as a test. Just click the box that says 'application controlled'.

Makes the problem worse..

Well, you can also try uninstalling the present drivers and installing a slightly older version - this sometimes works. OR, if you aren't running the latest drivers, install them.

tried that already..

Set anisotropic filtering and antialiasing to 4x as a test. Just click the box that says 'application controlled' then click the 4x icon.

I also read that Vertical Synch may be a problem - same test- click the 'application controlled' - default then is 'off'


Try it.

Then try combinations.

Then try changing slots for your sound card - or removing it fior a while.

You have NO IDEA how weird mobos can be - believe me.

If its a USB mouse I personally hate them espec for gaming. They can cause irq conflicts and do freeze up and crash. and sometimes if the sound and vid are in conflict with other devices or too much hanging off the same irq then the mouse is where it displays the problem.

If you have an onboard sound disabled, possible disabled vid and a usb mouse, add in sound and vid then thats when the problems start

check IRQ resources and try swapping.. and I'd use wireless or ps/2 mouse.

thats just me though, many use usb mice without issues.

But don't usb mice have a higher sampling rate than ps2 mice?? I thought usb mice are at 125hz as opposed to ps2 mice being at 66hz

This sounds a lot like the CPU itself is being tasked by a process, not necessarily your game.

Try to end running programs you don't need and then try it again.

Antivirus
Printer management software
Multimedia apps (QT, Real Player, etc.)
File sharing progs.
