Weird toilet problem

I have a raelly weird problem with the toilet, it will work fine for a while, then all of a sudden it's completely blocked. I can then use the plunger and if I go really hard it will unblock and work fine for a while, then even if I only flush water a few times it will eventually re block itself. I can reuse the plunger really hard and it will unblock and again flushing nothing but water will get it completely blocked again, all other drains and the downstairs toilet works fine. When I use the plunger I rally need to push down violently with almost all my strenght for it to unblock or nothing will happen.

What could be causing this weird problem?

Do you have kids?? It might be a pencil, toothbrush. To fix the problem you will have to pull toilet and take outside and reach your hand up into trap
to remove object that is giving you grief. GOOD LUCK and happy hunting :)

Theres an elbow or turn in the pipe and something ain't moving.Pipes
are probably in the wall too.

Do you have any pre-schoolers who get in there when no one is looking?

The fact that it is the upstairs bathroom makes it a sure thing it is a
solid clog.

Removing the toilet and using a snake is the only way I know without major
repairs.

If you have a shower bath,or sink in the same bathroom and they drain fine....

Your easiest repair is to pull the toilet and unclog the drain with a snake.

I will admit I had flushed some raw onion bread in there a week or two ago, but I can't imagine the water wouldn't have dissolved that if it had bene stuck all that time. Also, as I said, once I plunge it it works perfectly fine for a few flushes, then out of nowhere is clogged solid again even if only water is flushed.

I tried the snake but I couldn't there it through the "S" shape, I guess I'll try again, it doesn't seem to be made for toilets though, it says it's to unclog drains and doesn't mention toilets anywhere on it.

Yessir I have, Working for Redlands Plumbing company. They also did heating,
a/c, When days were slow for HVA/C They sent me out for Plumbing duties
which I carried behind my seat a auger. telescoping snake that is 10ft. in
length for toilets. Dug out little building blocks on one occasion. :grin:

So have you acually removed the toilet?

I don't know where you are located but, in our area we can buy a item that hooks to the garden hose snake it down as far as we can turn the water on and it expands then finally blows all the pressure out at once and unclogs the drain.

Maybe 357 knows the name of this item. I just call it a drain blaster.

Sorry to have to tell you, you will have to pull toilet and go digging. Make sure you wash your hands afterwards and scrub with Bleach and water to dilute the bleach. I have gloves that are what surgeons use except a little thicker just
for that ADVENTURE :)

Yes I agree toilets are messy. I went to one place years ago that had crap
flowing out of toilet. Thick sticky crap. not too bad if you can get by the smell
and keep telling yourself IT IS ONLY PLAYDOH and water along with toilet paper.
Now it is only HVA/C /R. Wife knows I know about plumbing so she calls me
and saves us a few bucks.
