Black Screen !!!!!!!!!!!!

:confused: Over the past two nights I have had my PC stop working with no explanation, what happens is that while I am listen to the radio on the Internet the computer stops working, the screen goes black and the hard drive light comes on and stays on. :confused:

I recently upgrade the CPU to the following.

Motherboard:

CPU Type DualCore Intel Pentium D 920, 2800 MHz (14 x 200)
Motherboard Name ECS P4M800-M7 (3 PCI, 1 AGP, 1 CNR, 2 DDR DIMM, Audio, Video, LAN)
Motherboard Chipset VIA P4M800 Pro
System Memory 1024 MB
BIOS Type AMI (10/19/05)
Communication Port Communications Port (COM1)
Communication Port ECP Printer Port (LPT1)

Is there any thing in the way of changes that I should have done. I have check the ECS website to find a bios upgrade but I am unable to find one.

Any advice would help me to under stand the problem.

I also had a black screen. Bios came up, but when windows was supposed to
initiate with Blue line clips go across bottom of windows Xp it was BLACK!!! and
of course harddrive light staying on bright and not moving. Bios Saw name of
drive Western Digital and S/N. When I put it back in as a slave windows saw it and wanted to install it. I am not sure of the problem. But I have a funky feeling it is a mean virus that will not let you boot! :wave: The reason I say that I am using western digital again!!! I WROTE ZERO`S TWICE TO hard drive and then
loaded Windows. I had a lot of stuff. on that old hard drive That I could not recover. BACK UP BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

I would GUESS that if you are listening away and then the comp 'locks up' you need to:

1) ad-aware and spybot, etc

2) check memory (memtest and at least one other test)

3) do a sfc /scannow

4) verify/update your audio codecs

5) update your mobo chipset

6) buy a stereo

:) added a little humour - things are a little tense these days

I am so glade it is not me that is having the same problem, luckily I back my pc up once a month with "Norton Ghost" but I am going to revise that and do it twice a month.

Thankfully My lap top is still working fine with no problems.

I have spoken to my local PC tech and he recommends doing a complete re-insolation off XP from scratch on a new hard drive.

Whether or not that is the right way to go is anybody's guess.

Please could you advise me on how to Verify/update codecs along with items numbers 3 and 5

As for number 6 the radio station that I listen to, the transmitted signal only travels about 50 miles or so so I am just out off signal range.

Well found out it may be a boot virus or it corrupted boot files. If that is the
case I guess you need to keep it running 24 hours a day no START UP :grin:

:flame: Well the update on the problem is that is running sort off but at the moment it is scanning for any virus with a updated Norton Anti-Virus but some point in the scanner the system it crashes and restarts automatically.

Could the power supply be a cause of the problems that I am having. :grin:

:confused: I have down loaded the updated the new bios but now the PC will not boot up and I get two long audible beeps

please could you advise on how to reset the bios to original bios. :confused:

You should be able to reset the BIOS using jumpers 2-3 ,or alternately
removing the coin shaped CMOS battery for a few minutes. make sure the
system is completely unplugged from any power source while your monkeying
around in there.

If that dose not work what next.!!!!!!!

The story of a bad BIOS flash usually has a bad ending.

:guns: I have tried by removing the battery and selecting jumpers 2/3 both of which the did not work, as you have previous said this could have been a very bad ending.

Please could some advise on which MOB (without graphics on) would be a good purchase as the graphics card I currently use is great. :thumbs2: :thumbs:

Yes That is the one that Windrivers advised me to use, I am not blaming you for the problem I am sure that there is a problem with the OS system.
