Trouble w/Roxio dld copying to cd

:confused: Im trying to copy to cd for backup. I've had two total blowups during the sessions. my computer freezes onto a screen with a long mesage - something about having to shut down to avoid damage to computer. I made only 1 successfu cd. The second froze up and when i went back to see what files did get onto the CD it had only 2 gigs of information and said that there was no other free space. the capacity should be around 4.4.

I have Xp home edition, Dell Inspiron 1501 5 months old. Now at bootup I get a message that the last cd was not ejected corectly - DLD will mount the cd. At this point i select the cancel tab. This message keeps coming up every time i start the computer.

1 - i need to get rid of the error message
2 - i need to figure out how to backup on cd or
3 - matbe get an external or portable hard drive ( i dont know which is best)
