?Windows Explorer?
I havn't the slightest idea why, but all of sudden, whenever I turn my computer on, a message appears on the screen telling me that there has been an error with Windows Explorer and that it must shut down. Afterwards, the only thing on my screen is the background. I've heard from some people that it's possible to fix this easily, but I just can't figure out how.....and I'd rather not do a complete recovery and lose everything on it.

Welcome to Windrivers kavrae
Is this XP you are talking about?
This is most likely because of spyware or a virus. Is this immediate? Are you able to start explorer again? Press ctrl alt del and you should get up a dialogue - choose task manager, when it opens, select start new process and type in explorer.exe

In addition to what NooNoo says can you run in safemode?
If you can restart the explorer process I would disable system restore, reboot in safe mode (with networking support) and scan for viruses and spyware. Websites like TrendMicro, bitdefender, and Ewido are a good place to Start.
But I would definately back up your data and if you find any sort of Viruses/Spyware consider doing a complete system reformat as your system will thank you.

I have seen something similar on a Vista Machine. It was caused by the vulnerability in the way Microsoft Windows handles animated cursor(.ani) files.
Visit any websites or open any email that seemed suspicious recently??
Like NooNoo posted..have any more information for us??
