Code 39!!!!HELP!

Hi i seem to be having a problem with my Dvd/ Cd rom driver,,, it say "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware.The driver may be corrupted or missing(code 39)" when i try to update driver nothin happens,,,i have also uninstalled and tried to reinstall to no success.

Also ive tryed a system restore FIVE times and all of them have been unsuccessful with it saying "System Restore Incomplete". I have read in several sites about deleting the upper and lower filters in the Registry but im unsure as to weather this really safe and afraid of making more damage,,,im a student and i really cant afford to be buying anew one so im little weary about entering Registry,,,unless its a complete nesscessy.........i would be very grateful if someone could help me thank you very much .x.x..x

Yes, it is completely necessary to edit the registry. The only other way around it is to format and reload your machine, or pay a technician to edit the registry for you. here is the fix
