ati rage xl and code 10

I am owning a hp 512n and I have tried installing rage xl as a second video card and I am getting a code 10. I have tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it with updated software from the manufacurers website, and I am still having the same problem. I am using windows xp on this computer

Paul, code 10 means a lack of resources. a bios update might help but note that there are two types of 512n - one based on the greenland and the other the trigem lomita... The bios update is only for the greenland.

Do you know that this Rage XL is good... after all it is a very old card.

This computer has the trigem. One other tidbit of information that I am getting is when I riught click on the adaptor and I go down to properties
it will say general>details>driver>details tabs. I click on the second details tab and I get the message "unable to get cds card number".

OK having read around, you might want to try resetting cmos to defaults or use the jumper on the main board and then try again.

If i understand you correctly you are trying to install a second video card? What exactly is the card thats installed or onboard already?
Is the rage a PCI or AGP?

It is the Intel 82810 E graphics controller, this card is built into the motherboard

The rage is a pci. And the onboard card is and the onboard card is 82810e

Have you tried disabling the onboard for the moment?

While it is possible to make 2 video cards work together.
It is not the easiest thing.
And to mix intel and ati is also going to make it that much more difficult

I have disabled the onboard, and it made no difference.

I got the driver s from the link above.

Then the likliehood is the Rage card is bad. Since you disabled the onboard, you'll have to reset CMOS to get it recognized again I believe.

edit: have you tried another PCI slot? Sometimes the IRQ assignments change shares if you do.

Okay now I have finally made some progress. I moved it up to the topmost pci slot and now I am finally making some progress. I am getting a code 12, lack of resources, How can I determine specifically what is interfering?
