[RESOLVED] Creative SB16 ISA (CT 2700)

I've got an old PC that I'm trying to get going again, and am in the process of reinstalling drivers and the like, but I've reached a dead-end. I have a Mitsumi CDROM drive attached to the computer via a Cretive SB16 ISA sound card (model CT2700). The jumper settings for both the sound card and the CDROM control the IRQ's IO etc. but I have no manual and I need to figure out what the settings are, or set them to something sensible. Does anyone know whaty the settings are or have the manual?

Creative say it's too old (1994) and they don't have the manual for it... (?!?)

First get the CDROM working without the Sound card then piut the sound card in and try the couple of different Jumper settings one at a time.

I don't think that you quite understand the problem here.... The CDROM is connected to the Sound Card. I don't know what the jumper settings for the CDROM are (these are located on the sound card). Therefore, I cannot get the CDROM working.

To be honest, I don't care about gedtting the sound card working as a sound card. All I want to do is get it working as an interface card, and to do this I need the IRQ's and IO's for the CDROM interface...

I'm a little confused as to why you need a sound card to install a CDROM but anyway what kind of CDROM do you have?

It's an old style proprietary interface CDROM. The interface is not IDE or SCSI but is a "Mitsumi" interface.

Back in the dark ages of DOS and Win 3.11, the first CDROMs had their own interfaces (Mitsumi, Creative, Panasonic, to name a few). These drives don't use the IDE interface/protocols, but instead use their own, and you need an interface to carry the data onto the ISA/PCI bus and into the system. And I'd rather not have to buy a new CDROM as the machine is for a charity and it's only going to run as a simple network server.

I don't know if this helps, but on the CT1600 SB Pro the only jumper required for the CDrom interface is the DMACTL jumper 3 pin 1&2 disable 2&3 enable. All the other jumpers pertain to the sound card or joystick interface. The CT1600 uses Mitsumi/Panasonic interface.

Neither of the ISA SB16's I've got lying around have Mitsumi interfaces, that was a bit uncommon, but the Mitsumi isn't far off the Panasonic. Does the card have separate connectors for the different interfaces, or just one shared? I have a nasty feeling the second manual for a variant of the Vibra16 which I decided I didn't need last clean-out may have had that info - it showed three interface connectors (sigh).

I know exactly what you have
i have the original dos instalation disk for that setup.

you can use that to install the sound card and cdrom drivers from dos and then load windows over that after you boot to dos.
