Help with LAN???
I have been using Acer Aspire 5672 notebook for 3 years. It's ATI Radeon X1400 died on me. No video output, I have tried turning on the screen through keyboard as well as external monitor output. Nothing!
It starts up fine(I can hear the win xp sound). I need some files off the hd, file sharing is not enabled(of course!) I can connect thru lan and access shared folder. How do I access the not shared folder? Or how can I enable hd sharing through keyboard, without the monitor? I have tried ftp as well. I know the MAC and the IP address!
Can someone help?

Quickest way is to pull the drive.. and use a usb to laptop 2.5" drive adapter... but most laptops won't boot at all if the video card has gone... more likely to be the backlight or inverter on the screen....

You mean 3.5" drive?
That is an excellent idea. I will try that. Thanks! I have made sure that there is no back light issues, it has an external monitor output and I have used it in the past but does not work now.
I don't know what does an inverter do to the laptop screen. I mean I know what's an inverter.

With inverter and backlight issues you end up with a blank screen, but you can hear the computer working. If the video card died, it is most likely that it wouldn't start up at all.
No, I mean 2.5" drive... most notebooks have 2.5" drives. 3.5" drives go in a desktop as a rule.

I will look into the 2.5" adapter as you suggested. It does boot up, I can hear it. The reason I am saying that it is video card issue is that a video frame froze while I was watching a movie on netflix, King Corn to be specific. The sound of the movie worked fine even after it froze. And I can access shared folder on the notebook via my desktop, so I don't know why it is booting up with the "dead" video card.
Thanks for the help!

shut it down, restart it and hit the f8 key repeatedly once a second until you see the menu screen. Can you see the screen? Can you see any text as it starts up?
-
No I do not see anything on the screen. It seems to be off, no power! Is there any way to enable hd sharing in the "dark" with the keyboard?
-
No. Pull the drive as NooNoo said.

Hey Doc, anyway you could send me a link from where I can buy this adapter?
Thanks!

No I have not tried remote connection, yet. I believe that I had disabled it on the laptop.
I needed the link to that part, not the store url!

this is what you are looking for this is pretty similar to that which I use. You don't need the power on when doing a 2.5" drive and the rest of the kit is useful for turning any SATA or ide drive into a usb drive.

I know sometimes I drift far and wide, but did you try an external monitor switch or is it definitely the vid card not the LCD?
