so i had to reinstall xp beacuse i downloaded somthing BAD! REALLY BAD!
it fked my puter over dusens of times
anyway i reinstalled got all th ethernite and display drivers etc the only one ive been unable to get is the multimedia audio controller therefor i have no sound :(:(
i have a compaq presario sr1629uk
i have downloaded the original drivers from the p website but still doesnt seem to work, any1 know witch driver i need and where i can get it??

Clark please describe what happened when you installed the driver (note, simply downloading it doesn't install the driver).
The last time you 'fixed' that comp you needed a Via download also;

i go to install, and it says cannot find match realtek hd audio inf file!
also the via file was for the ethernet adapter
I was ,merely reminding you about the Via need.
As to the sound issue, try this procedure:
To install drivers from the internet:
go into Windows Explorer, left click on Desktop, then File, then New and then Folder - name the folder XXXDrivers (where XXX = type, eg, AudioDrivers)
go to the site for your driver, find the RIGHT one for your mobo and OS,(click on the nearest site to you if appropriate) and then download button - when asked where to 'save' the download specify your desktop folder XXXDrivers and wait until the download is complete.
Once it is done, clear your screen and click on the desktop folder and then on the file inside - if it is a zip or rar file it will need to be unzipped or unpacked - make sure if you are asked to specify where to unzip/unpack to tell it to do so to the XXXDrivers folder.
Once you are done that, uninstall the old drivers for the device and then select the device and specify update drivers and direct the search to the folder you made (don't let Windows do it).
ive done all that, it says there is no driver installed,
this driver doesnt work beacuse it cannot find the inf file, are there any other drivers i would be able to install?
So perhaps you have a separate sound card? Or perhaps you have the sound turned off in bios?
Download and install everest home and post the motherboard details.
