I had my cpu out of its place in the desk to install USB cord for digital camera. When I put the cpu back in the desk, it lost the sound. We pulled the cpu back out, checked the connection and it is fine, but still no sound. I uninstalled the drivers and resinstalled them, still no sound. Does this mean the sound card is bad? It is a very cheap one I think.

i am assuming that when you say "CPU" you mean the processor... not the actual CPU...
9 times out of ten... when a customer picks up a computer from our shop and has to hook it back up... they call us because they no longer have sound....

I meant the whole case, that contains all of the components. And it is jacked into the right place, I have it marked,ha. So now what?

No, there aren't any yellow marks anywhere in the device manager. My husband took the A+ class and they built this computer. this is the second sound card we have put in it, as they buy cheap parts. I am just wondering if I need to go buy a better one. Everything else works great. It is a Celeon 466 with a Maxtor 13G hard drive with Soyo mother board and 192MB ram. Any other suggestions?
what is the sound card? and what is the OS?
The operating system is Windows 98, second edition and the sound card is made by RealTek and is an ALS4000.
That's an ASound sound card... did you use realtek drivers??
