Not that I am aware... however ZA did this to my neighbour's computer out of the blue... it rezoned the local network as internet and bam, no more network printing or copying. Had to manually add the ip range and set as trusted.
Gotta love software firewalls
NOT!
If I right click My Network Places and choose to search for computer, I type the name in and it pops right up. But when I click on view network computers, nothing shows up? I have both Win2K as well as WinXP Home and Pro in the network. Are all issued Ip's from a Linksys Router. This problem exists from all compters regardless of OS. I have AVG Free installed on most computers. I have other networks with simular OS's and AVG that does not have this problem. Any chance it is the Router??
If you can get to it, but network places it doesn't show up, it may be a master browser problem. What do the event viewers have to say?
I have found in some cases if the windows firewall is turned on you cannot see the PC in the normal fashion. Also you might want to make sure you have all the PC's on the same workgroup.
All the computers are on the same Workgroup, and all the computers have the file and printer exception configured with Windows firewall. I have even disabled the firewalls to see if that would help, but no go. Remember, I can search for the computer, and they are found. I just can't see any computers in Network Neighborhood.
You really didn't want to ask that question :D Basically, one computer has to be in charge of the network - the master browser. The master browser concept has been around since Windows 3.1... If the machine that is in charge is turned off, or goes off line, a new master browser must be elected among the other machines. If this election process goes wrong, you end up with the issues you have.
Troubleshooting the master browser
Suddenly, it started to work again????????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????
OH those gremlins.
They had an election and sorted it out...
