SB Live 5.1 & New 5.1 Drivers
This is a heads up for those who may encounter this problem.
My configuration;
ABIT KT7A-RAID
Most Current BIOS Flash
Thunderbird 1.33ghz
256MB PC133
Maxtor 40GB 7200rpm set as Master on Primary RAID
Western Digital 20GB 7200rpm set as Slave on Primary RAID
Segate 10GB 5400rpm set as Master on Secondary RAID
Creative Encore 12X DVD set as Master on primary IDE controller
TDK 32x12x10x Burner set as Master on secondary IDE controller
SB Live Plat 5.1
3COM network card
Adaptec 2940AU SCSI card
ATI All-In-Wonder Pro AGP
After I did a fresh install of Win98 SE, I installed the new SB drivers. After the reboot, my burner disappeared from My Computer and from Windows Explorer. The burner was still seen within Device Manager, and had resources asigned to it. Uninstalling the SB drivers would bring the burner back in all its glory, but as soon as the drivers were readded the same thing would happen. I noticed a post on a nother board about someone else having this same issue, but with different parts other than the SB Live 5.1
The fix that I found is I disabled the SB Emulator in Device Manager and rebooted. Since I have done that, all the sound still works perfectly, and the burner has not once vanished.
This happened with both Windows 98 and Windows 98 SE. I have not tried it on Windows 2000. I hope this helps any of you who might encounter this issue. <IMG SRC="smilies/tongue.gif" border="0">
