Office 2010 Word files diappearing

Wondering if anyone has had any clients with this issue.
Make a file in word and then save it to a folder.
Close word and go to open the file and it isn't there.
Seems not to matter where the file is saved.
You can see a tmp link to it in Recent but that link says cannot find when clicked.

This is the issue in a nutshell with various other details but it always amounts to the same. File disappears after it is saved.
Have tried repair word
Uninstall office and re install office
Format drive and re install fresh
(This gave a few weeks where the docs remained.)
Then it began again.
I know the above story is 2007 but 2010 does it as well.
Seems this is a known problem by some yet there is no
permanent solution.
As a work around we are using livedrive to sync it and then hopefully it wont disappear.
Side note is that it sometimes does delete it off a USB stick as well.
Now I say delete because it disappears yet a tmp link can remain which doesn't work. SO I dont know that "delete" is the right qworkd
I have searched a lot and there doesn't seem to be a fix.

Well you would think that would be accomplished when I formatted and installed fresh twice . Certainly never hurts to try.
I will advise him to try it. I am desperate for any solution cause the more I search the less anything seems to have been done about it.

I was thinking that the usb stick has the malware. You formatted the computer, it worked fine until they accessed the usb stick. Then they got infected again.

Normal.dotm would be the correct file for 2007 & 2010.

Out of curiosity, have you tried unhide.exe on the usb drive or hard drive?

Could give this a try if it's not a 64 bit environment, it should let you see if there is a usb infector that hops to usb devices and is just bouncing around from device to device.

Slightly off topic but, has anyone else noticed that the word Virus has all but vanished and now all infectors have been lumped into the term Malware? If I recall Malware's definition is different from a virus, the most important points being that to be a Virus the program has to be able to do one of the following: Self Replicate, Self Propagate (to other devices), and/or damage or replace files. Malware was anything that didn't fit the previously listed details.

Was away and missed the replies sorry.
The issue was happening before ever a usb was plugged into it.
The usb stick was my own so i know it was clean.
Zonie that's an option I haven't tried. Thanks I will try it.
I have made sure the system is clean.
This definelty a bug in both Word 2007 and 2010

What i would try is running a PORTABLE version of office, Just to see if it happens on a non-os/registry dependable office too.
I would even try to burn the portable office on a dvd and run it from there if it will let you - Although I think even the portable version create some temp files.
I know it might consider un-legal to create/use the portable office, But I regard to it only for a tool to see if it's office/hardware related problem.
Another thing - if it's on SSD drive, I would suggest to update it's firmware or try to replace the drive to a non-ssd drive (You can image the drive).
