Hi there,
OMG! *lol* I defrag about once a week or when I do lots of reinstalling or uninstalling or cleaning my HD up.
Ju Leon...

Hi there,
An hour? Boy, even I do defrag regularly, it still takes me longer.
Ju Leon...
yay Photoshop opens up fast now :)
He's using Diskeeper. It's much better than Microsofts Disk defragging tool.
Gee +Daemon+ I see your down to 40% free space, is Santa bringin' ya a new 120 GB HD for Christmas? ;)
ya he should for my work comp here :( but I do have linux on this same disk :)
Been a long time since any defrag has gone on.
I am having hardware lags in one of the games I played so I defragged a couple weeks ago.
You're supposed to use Diskeeper Lite to Defrag every day!
That's the purpose behind it. Oh well, take some people longer. Merry Christmas.
Orangeman
aye, I used to, but then I was ding some heavy programming and graphics, and it would lag my system down so I turned it off lolQuote:

Hi there,
I so hate Windows ME....
Ju Leon...
We recomend our customers defrag then reboot their WinNT/2K servers weekly. Sometimes we find out some bonehead hasn't done it in 6 months or so. (Hey, my system is running really slow. Can you guys come check it out)
I've seen worse than what you posted. I also have an NT box at work that Diskeeper won't run on. I shudder to think what it'll look like when I finally figure it out.
BTW, now that we're talking about it.....Diskeeper 6.0, WinNT4 SP6. The first time running Diskeeper after installing it, it pops up a little message box where you check 'Do not show this again' and click OK. When I click OK, nothing happens....like the button has no procedure at all on it. Anybody seen this before or know what might be causing it?
I was at school and a buddy of mine asked me to fix his AOL when I had to reboot his PC and he was frantic and said "no, it takes a long time to start up". He was right it took nearly 15 minutes!! I had defrag analyse his HD and it was 98.9% fragmented!! "When did you use defrag last?", he said "what's defrat". His PC was 3.5 years old!!! So it had ..... you guessed it.. 3.5 years of defragmentation!! I installed PerfectDisk and I told him not to touch his PC till it was finished... Anyone want to know how long it took????Quote:

He now defrags every night!!!
Merry Un Christmas!!
At home defrag automatically runs weekly. Here at work I do it maybe once a month - but there's not a lot of file action going on.
I try to do the servers once a month. Although when the defrag it done, there's still loads of fragmented files on the system drive, even after running it several times.

The MS defrag tool is made by the same company (Executive Software) as Diskeeper. Works but it's not as good as their full blown version.
Probably because there are files in use due to services or processes running. Try shutting down all services and processes, defragging and then either reboot or restart the services.Quote:

That is correct, defrag in 2k/xp is by exexutive software done under contract to MS.
Diskeeper however is aproximatly 3 times faster, more thurough and can defrag more then one hard disk at a time, it includes; Boot time defrag, frag guard and the set & forget... All make diskeeper worth every penny to purchase it.
My servers are set to defrag nightly, my laptop defrags whenever i get around to it.. wich comes out to about monthly.
Ooops! Defrag. I new I was forgetting something.
Before I got this new disk, I think it was prolly like 2 years or something. Hehe. I used to live by scandisk and defrag back in the Win95, 98 days. But then I just got lazy. :p
Today is the 26th, well actually the 27th(12:50am)....... :drink:Christmas is the 25th not prior or after; So when it's not Christmas I can't say Merry Christmas... so I said Merry UN Christmas.... does that explain it?Quote:

Do this and you will see better performance from the drive.
