The island I live on would go under if the storm surge is over 10 feet. But, I live on the highest point of this island. It would take 20 feet to put my house "under". So: everything is alright! And: kind of exciting! I don't know it you ever experienced this 'ski, but several years ago I went to the tip of my island while one was passing and the sight was awesome! No damage: here at least. But I will tell you what: the sight of nature IS sometimes so awesome!
And, if it does hit here with full force, I will give updates from my "bunker" and keep WD informed. And, if the power does go for awhile, I have a "stock" of UPS's, which should allow me enough time to keep you all posted.https://forums.windrivers.com/images.../2005/03/1.gif

Apparently Trip it doesn't mean you have to go, just that you are "at risk" if you don't. Then Lee County can have their usual "I told you so" attitude when its all over. Yeah, I know about the evac orders. Most people I know aren't going anywhere, even many in Matlacha are staying. My neighbor just took off for the Cape, though. As of 10:30 local time, it looks like Tampa is going to get hit the worst possible way. It looks like the storm will pass us just off the coast, bringing 10-14 feet of storm surge. Just for reference, Macdill AFB and Central Command are only 5-6 feet above sea level. I'm 25 miles or so inland from the bay, 45 from the coast, so I shouldn't even see hurricane force winds. 5 to 8 inches of rain. Power is expected to go out.

Looks potentially worse here where Titchski and I live since the eye will be just off shore and all the winds and rain will be swirling right at us. Most of the islands here, as up near Jae are going to be subject to 10 foot srtorm surges which will "bury" many in water. I just talked to Mrs Titchski a while ago and was kindly invited over again, but me and many neighbors are going to be staying on. Being on the "high point" of my island several neighbors have parked their vehicles in my yard. Trailors in this type weather are especially susceptible to the winds.

Charley's just been upgraded to a category 4! Batton down the hatches boys!
"Hurricane Charley is gaining strength as it nears Florida's Gulf Coast. Charley has been upgraded to a dangerous Category 4 hurricane, with sustained winds of up to 145 mph. The storm is expected to hit land between Sarasota and the Tampa Bay area this afternoon."
I guess the Florida boys are down. Hope everyone is safe down there.
Things are fine in Tampa, but last report I heard was that Charley made landfall at Pine Island. Bad news for trip.
