Creative AudioPCI (ES1371,ES1373) (WDM) doesnt work on XP!!

My Creative AudioPCI (ES1371,ES1373) (WDM) -or- SoundBlaster Audio PCI 64D whichever you prefer; doesnt work on XP at all. I get no sound. I upgraded my computer from 98 to XP and got no sound when I started up my computer. I was told to download a Creative AudioPCI 128 driver. The download told me that I must have my SoundBlaster working. Device Manager tells me that it is working properly. I went throught the Help and Support and it got me nowhere. Other than buying a new sound card, what can I do to get it to work? What kind of information do I need to give? sorry if this problem has been brought up before!

yes, im using a gateway. i used the audiopci 128 and it told me that it didnt detect any soundblaster cards on my system. then i have to exit. i have also checked the services.msc and my windows audio is started.

Ok to save me going hunting what motherboard this bios string might represent can you provide us with the model number please ?

You might need 'some tinkering' with this board to get that to behave under xp so it'll see your s/b correctly (soundblasters are famed for not sharing resources correctly, so if the motherboard info that windows detects isn't just so it might not get found 'right') this might mean a bios flash or chipset patches.

Is the sound built into the motherboard or is it a separate sound card. If the latter, look at the sound card for a code in the form of ES#### or CT####. Creative made many different versions of this card and they don't all use the same drivers. If you do have the ES1371 or ES1373, the drivers you need are not on the Creative web site - you need the native windows drivers.

After doing a bit of digging on Gateway, it appears that you have the Ensoniq ES1373 controller w/ a Crystal CS4297 codec. Both of these are natively supported in XP, however getting the combination recognized could be difficult, particularly if you upgraded from 98 to XP (instead of doing a clean install). Creative does not have XP drivers for the ES 1373 and Crystal (Cirrus) does not have XP drivers for anything. Gateway has a W2K driver for what appears to be your audio on its web site (if you provide the serial # on the web site, it will give you the specific downloads for your machine). http://support.gateway.com/support/d...3&uid=64175079 You could also try the Cirrus W2K driver for the CS4299 (there is no CS4297 driver) http://www.cirrus.com/en/support/drivers/audio/OS3.html Uninstall any drivers you have already installed before trying either of these.

Been down that road. Just search the forum for ES1371. None of the XP AudioPCI, PCI64, PCI128, etc. drivers on the Creative web site will work with the ES1371 or ES1373. If you read the details, you will see that the driver is for specific model numbers.

I have the same problem spentonxp experienced.

I've got a Gateway too, and the Creative Audio PCI (ES1371,ES1373) doesn't seem to be compatible with WinXP. I've got NO sound on my computer.

What I wanna know is HOW spentonxp managed to get the sound working via downloading from the link above. I clicked on the link, and this is the msg I see:

"This file is not compatible with the version of Windows installed on the computer that you are using right now. If you are accessing this file for another computer, be sure to double-check that this file matches that computer's version of Windows before continuing."

Apparently, that particular download isn't compatible with WinXP. Based on what I read, I thought spentonxp had WinXP too???

If someone can help me figure out how to get the sound to work on my system, it'd be great!

Welcome to windrivers kumushai. Ignore the warning from gateway and download the driver. W2K and XP drivers are generally interchangable.

I've finally got my sound back~!!!! :D After I dl-ed the driver, I just had to switch my audio setting to "digital".

The sound of music coming from my computer never sounded so beautiful. *sniffles* I wish I knew about this site a lot earlier though. The Gateway support tech guy was no help at all. In fact, his way would've lead to bigger headaches.

ok im back guys... i have a problem. :mad: the drivers work, they really do, but if I restart my computer more than once, or shut off my computer, the sound is lost. i have to uninstall my drivers restart, install the new driver and restart. then they work. but i cant shut off or restart my computer. why is this?? plus, if i restart my computer with my sound muted, its gone and i have to reinstall the drivers... help me again!

Was running win2k server.. sound card worked fine.. now fresh install to XP (not upgrade.. ewww) My sound does not work. All drivers look fine it lists as a ES1371/1373 blah blah (WDM) like everyone else here.

As you have gathered, driver support for the oem versions of the 1371/73 is spotty. Creative has no drivers, and the native xp drivers do not work with many implementations. I found the following on the Seanix web site, although none of them really address your situation. There are 9x/nt drivers for your motherboard (unlikely to work), as well as 2k drivers for the ES1371 (which may work).

..of course most of these cards were never designed for xp & 'wdm' in the first place !!! {hence the bios patches referenced by way of 'fix' so far} - so yeah, if xp's native driver 'won't have it' .. this seems the only practical way forward unless you can track a better fit driverwise or persuade a new bios out of your m/b manufacturer to fix its 'not liking xp'-'ness' ;)..

Believe it or not when I install 2k it installs drivers that work... :(

I think I'm just gunna go and blow some cash on a new snd card if I can't get this workin.. ahhh I love windows... maybe if I keep saying that it'll be true? hah.

My upgrade to XP from Me was cumbersome to say the least. Have now tried all the fixes that have been posted on these forums(including uninstalling the drivers and letting XP re-intall them) I now have version 5.2.6366.0
Guess what? Still no sound.
The sound card is that world famous Creative AudioPCI(ES1371,ES1373)(WDM) and I know one day my sound will be back. My Gateway machine details are:

Well I no longer am working in silence. (Currently playing - Andy Kershaw)Here is what I did in essence...briefly..

Uninstalled all the audio drivers*

Went to Everest to get my system hardware report*

Figured my sound card was Soundblaster PCI 128 aka Ensoniq ES1371

Downloaded a driver from the Creative website...rebooted...voila.

Thanks to all who post here as * means I found the information on this thread. You wonderful people make the IT world a great place.

I'm having problems with my audio as well. It plays most sounds but there are some files it can't play. It has it's drives not installed and that is obviously the problem.

I would suggest you make 2 new folders - c:\Chipset and C:\Audio and download the respective drivers to those folders.

Then run the chipset and then the audio.

Err, which of the billions of files do I download?

Do this first:

Download and run Everest Home (it is free):

Once you download it, click on it and let it install and then run it from the icon on your desktop and then click on 'Computer' then on 'Summary', then go to the VERY top of the screen and click on 'report', then 'quick report-summary' and then 'plain text' and save it then go to C:/programs/lavalys and open that folder then open Everest Home sub-folder and then reports sub-folder and click on the report.

This will open it in a text editor (probably Notepad) and then use your mouse to highlight ALL the debug stuff at the bottom of the report and delete it and then save that file again and then copy and paste it to here.
