ok so the land is fairly close, so he tied some strings together to form a lassoo, securered it on his side and romed somethign on the other side. He then proceeded to tight rope walk or pull himself accross in the water.

Shadow was just about to board his flight to the West Coast when his assistant approached him and begged him not to fly.

When Shadow enquired about the strange request, the junior detective said that the previous night he had had a terrible dream that Shadow's plane would crash. Shadow turned away and boarded the plane without a word.

When he landed, he phoned back to his office and ordered the immediate dismissal of his young assistant.

Why?

Shadow's young assistant was supposed to be on a stake-out the night he claimed to have had this dream.
He was obviously sleeping on the job.

Why?

because the plain had to make an emergency landing due to sabotage.

or because the plain did not crash, he know the young detective's instincts were wrong, which is a major detriment to detective work

A frozen corpse lies in the freshly tilled field and strangely, there are no footprints anywhere around the body. The closest marks are tyre tracks from a tractor more than 50 metres away. A farmer, who had been working in the field all day, said he had not seen anyone or anything unusual.

How did the person die and turn up frozen in an open field?

The person was a stowaway hidden in the landing gear of a jumbo jet.
He died of hypothermia and froze in the stratosphere. When the plane's landing gear opened, the corpse fell out and landed in the open field.

a sky diver - whose parachute did not deploy. the field was freshly tilled because it was after harvest time, and the onset of winter froze the body overnight before he was discovered
