Mr. and Mrs. Payload were walking home from the shopping mall with their purchases when Mr. Payload began to complain that his load was too heavy.

Mrs. Payload turned to her husband and said, "I don't know what you're complaining about because if you gave me one of your parcels, I would have twice as many as you, and if I gave you just one of mine, we would have equal loads.

How many loads were each of them carrying?

Ari Gant boasts to Professor Quantum and Dr. Prod that he is the best chess player of the three. In the upcoming chess tournament between Ari, Quantum and Prod, Ari claims that of the three games they will play, he will probably win all three and definitely two in a row. What is the best way for Ari to play his opponents so that he has the best chance of succeeding in his definite claim?

Should he play Quantum - Prod - Quantum, or should he play Prod - Quantum - Prod?

Since Ari claimed he would definitely win two games in a row, out of a possible three games played, it is imperative that he wins the second game to fulfill his claim. Since he has an easier time beating Dr. Prod, he would be wisest to play Dr. Prod in the second game.

Quantum - Prod - Quantum. He must win the second game to have any chance of making his claim true. Therefore he should play the easiest opponent second.
