i wasn't really focusing on you with my post..... actually... i didn't find your post all that offensive when compared to others such as TechUK who calls the techs names and is rude as 7734. My post was meant as a general reference to others who not only are unappreciative, but also insult those who take the time to offer help for free.

so now it is my turn to apologize, as my post regarding others in general may have been assumed to be directed soley to you... I am sorry for any misunderstanding...

windows 95 cannot run an AMD above 300mhz
and 98 would not be able to run the 1000

I have a AMD 450 that runs Win95B with the patch installed. Worked pretty well. Never had anything above an 800 so I could not say about 98 and the 1gig chip.

I though the PC was now OK. But guess what? It decided to give up on me. Tried to bootup on Saturday and it just hung on Windows98 screen. I had to do what I did first time around. Take out ALL THE CARDS except graphics card and network card, format the h/drive. This time I ran up an install of Win98SE instead of Win98. After the installation got the PC to bootup successfully 3 to 4 times. Shut it down, insert Adaptec 2910C, restart PC install drivers. Let it bootup successfully 3 to 4 times. Shutdown insert SoundBlaster PCI 128 Sound Card install drivers. Now all is OK but I wonder...........for how long. How long before it hangs again? Thanks for all your help so far, and will appreciate any help I can get. I have seen PCs advertised which have Athlon 1.1Ghz with Win98SE as an operating system. So I guess the install of Win98SE should work for me too. Any ideas and/or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks a LOT.

If you hit F8 when Starting Windows 98 appears, and create a bootlog, examining C:\BOOTLOG.TXT will generally let you know what was causing freeze.
