I've mostly worked Retail sales; my favorite was: [ 'bout 2 years ago ]
can't find correct command.com; invalid c.c or something - it was a '286 that was given to them & a re-stall of the OS was required, they wanted it 'just done'

In house tech. Seems as if users are just as ignorant, but at least they are familiar. I also "know" my user base and their little quirks, if that makes sense, From what I have read here, I could NEVER do the field tech thing.......working with the General Public....no thanks! :D
I started teching taking care of the consumer part of consumer electronics. I know that they ultimatly pay the bills, but some days it was hardly worth it to chew through the leather restraints in the morning to go to work. I like making electrons behave, something that can't be done with consumers. Yes indeed, stupidity should be painfull. Not on the tech, they shouldn't be stupid, on the consumer who won't listen.
You hit it right on the head! Knowing who your (l)userbase while sometimes frustrating, you can get a pretty good idea of what could be wrong. I don't if I could deal w/the outside world anymore!Quote:

I work much of my time on agency, so it is difficult to say what I am. Agency listings say that I am a systems engineer (?? could of fooled me). I love this job because of the variety. Gets confusing sometimes though!!
I am a retail tech, but also manage networks for several small businesses.
I would think a retail tech gets to see a much wider variety of situations and problems.

Im IN-House again. Its the wat to go .
For me I have no warranty and the Pay is whatever I feel. I let the customer know up front that Tthe Cost depends how much time i take. and I'm honest with them with the time
I don't just sit a dick around on thier PC
If it takes five minutes then it takes five minutes. I still get my minumum pay. The customer likes the fact that they stay in the comfort of thier own home.
in-house and retail. a little bit of dweedo goes a long way. :eek:
Always been an in house tech and from what i hear of the retail tech i want to stay that way. Knowing your users help even if they are as dumb as the other

well i work in retail where i sell and give support over the phone and in store thats job 1
job 2 i work for a realty agency and i am there tech there take care of there problems that they have
well then i guess it this will classify as job 3 doing in home servce for ppl that need it from job 1 or job 2 either one
man to think i do all that and still have time for school and to be here on windrivers
I really only deal with the one major client, but this covers on-site and in-house work. Sometimes they bring it in, some times I bring it in. I like to fix on-site, but thats not always the case. I also get all the little jobs no-one else can be bothered to fix (their excuse that its out of their ball-park).
I get the whole range of problems from 'its not plugged in' to 'it just caught fire'....
I also get 'how long will it take', 'what will this cost', 'is it bad' etc...
it will be fixed when I fix it. :)
