Voice command is so fun (even when it basically sucks)My pop used to say there was always one a$$hol in the house....That being said, and since I live alone; Mine responds to "hey A$$hol" (and boy is it hard to get voince recognition to understand $$!
I prefer naming my children...I have a hard time finding them on the network if they're named "140789" like the former 'owner' of my network did.I name them for the room\teacher that they inhabit (i.e. Jones110)...I know where they are....my machine? 10gig....okay I'm weird too.
All of our servers at my place are named after sea critters. The machines in accounting are named after characters from Spongebob Squarepants.
And my machines at home are named Devastator, Soundwave, Ravage & Starscream.

Well, the only computer I have named is my file server. I have named it the Millennium Falcon, after the junker in Star Wars. Made from salvaged parts, I spent well over 60 hours on the critter before it would reliably boot (Things like the bios is a tad flaky, the memory/and or cards wiggle loose, it has survived a power surge that has left its ISA and VLB card slots sometimes working.
I have 5 comps in my apartment Well, they seem to have named themselves, as I always seem to be saying the same thing around them...
1. Web Server/FTP Server, name: "Dam$$t, the F'ing internet connection crapped out again?!?"
2. File Server, name:"At least W2KSvr can run for more than 24 hours without crashing"
3. DIVX+MP3 player, name: "What do mean, I burned another COASTER!"
4. Gaming box, name "Maelstrom", *heh*
5.The OS testbed "Oh, (fill-in the OS)crashed again?, [email protected] does that when it boots Linux." **no sarcasm**
6. *if we counted the plywood mounted HW testing system* "Oh, that?, yes it runs..."

Obi-Wan (wise server), Chewie, Han, Luke, Anakin, Leia, Yoda (laptop) and Lando soon enough.

Everytime I have to fix a computer I give it a couple new names.(e.g. piece of cr@p)
On our network the workstations are Breakum, Zan, Reebo the Greek and Clanger. The fileserver is called Big Blue (yup, its in a big, blue case), and the webserver is, for no apparent reason "The Monkey Bucket".

I call mine beast, POS, and yellow.
It's rather odd, but I've never really "named" a computer other than a network ID. However, most of the computers that refuse to work correctly, I have quite a few names for them. I just can't repeat them. Actually my home computer I have named "Kestrel".
Mine is named workstation. It likes to talk with other computers named prog, sys and data. :cool:
