i'd say that either the cable from CD to sound card or motherboard is bad or the CD connector on sound card or motherboard is bad. If you have an auxiliary connection on sound card or motherboard try connecting cable from CD to that and see wht you get.

It's an internal speaker....
I will send you $10.00, go to radio shack and get some headphones!
I downloaded the latest media player recently.... just happened to pop in a music CD, and guess what????
It actually played!!!!!
WinAmp still won't play a CD....
CD player that installs with Windows won't play a CD....
But MEDIA PLAYER WILL!!!!
Is this more of that anti-competative stuff I keep hearing about??? j/k!!!

if your new media player works, then your winamp and windows cd player files were corrupted. try reloading windows and then reinstall winamp.
this should do the trick.
The reason that Windows media player works for you is that it is playing your audio CD in data mode - the data is streaming off the CD on the IDE cable instead of in analogue format via the traditional audio cable.

SORRY I DIDN'T READ YOU POST UNTIL TODAY.... REASON THAT INSTALLING MSMEDIA PLAYER WORKED FOR YOU IS BECAUSE YOUR ISSUE WAS A CORRUPT AUDIO CODEC; CODEC=COMPRESSION/DECOMPRESSION ... YOU CAN INSTALL AND UNINSTALL AUDION CODECS WITHIN THE MULTIMEDIA ICON IN CONTRL PANEL UNDER DEVICES, UNDER MEDIA CONTRL DEVICES... YOU CAN THEN REINSTALL THEM USING ADD NEW HARDWARE UNDER MICROSOFT AUDIO CODECS.... BEING ABLE TO PLAY WAV BUT NOT CDA OR DIGITAL MUSIC MEANT THAT YOUR CD AUDIO DEVICE CODEC WAS PROBABLY HOSED AND NEEDED REMOVAL AND REINSTALLING... THIS CASE IS VERY RARE.... DONE 2LEVEL WINDOWZ SUPPORT AND FOUND THIS ISSUE TO BE THE CASE 1 OUT OF 200 TIMES.... MY ADVICE TO YOU WOULD BE TO IMAGE YOUR CURRENT OS AND CONTINUE TO IMAGE IT AS SOFTWARE UPGRADES/UPDATES ARE PERFORMED CAUSE WINDOWZ WILL HOSE UP, EVENTUALLY....GOOD LUCK WITH THE REST...
It's an internal speaker....
what, have u got your sound card connected to ???? the internal speaker.
do you get any "other noises" out of your "speaker" apart from the od crackle??
if you go into control panel /sounds and play one does it come thu your internal speaker......
Yeah, I was a bit worried about this internal speaker thing too https://forums.windrivers.com/
Anyway, as explained by some wise dude earlier, the reason why you can hear the CD Audio with WMP7 is because it uses Digital Audio Extraction (raw read functionality), so it'll work even if there isn't an audio cable connected from the CD-ROM drive to the soundcard.
To make Winamp work the same, you need to replace the default analog CD Input plugin (in_cdda.dll) with the digital CDReader plugin.
Be sure to read the accompanying text file for details on how to do this. Basically, you close Winamp, install CDReader, then goto the Winamp\Plugins dir and rename the default plugin to something like in_cdda.dll.off
If the problem persists, you might want to consider changing the Output Plugin to DirectSound (Winamp->Prefs->Output) and if this still doesn't help, try changing the Output Device in the config to use your soundcard's driver instead of Primary Sound Driver.
btw, what is your soundcard anyway?
Has this even been established yet?
Luckily for you, you just got a reply from a Winamp Forums Moderator. Hey, there's just no escaping Winamp for me. https://forums.windrivers.com/
Why are you worried about my speaker? I know that internal speakers are pretty crappy, but the one I have seems to work fine for me. The place I work is a bit cheap when it comes to buying unnecessary hardware for employees. One guy's been practically begging for just a sound card for his computer.Quote:

I downloaded CDReader and it worked great. Thanks. I really didn't expect more people to reply after my last post. I was mainly just posting that as a joke. Thanks to everyone for helping though.
Not that it would help now, but my sound card is an ESS Solo-1 PCI AudioDrive.
No Question about it, after reading all the posts. Its your Codecs.
Reinstall them.
it'll work.
Not to sound mean and ungrateful or anything, but I stated in my last post that the CDReader Plugin for Winamp worked.Quote:
