[RESOLVED] Can overclocking shorten the processer life?

Yes. But you know what you're doing!
The problem is, people who don't have such experience. Then, Overclocking can shorten their processor's life. In fact, it could not "live" at all... https://forums.windrivers.com/

On the other hand, I don't think that Overclocking can improve the performance so much. The difference is hardly noticeable on daily home use.

I didn't start out with this experience, it was gained thru patience, experimentation, and a little luck/skill. And as far as performance goes, the overclock on that particular celeron 266 made it from being barely performing near a 200MMX-level to almost a PII 300 level in most games and apps my GF uses. Overclocking was never meant to be such a mainstream hobby, much like hot rodding an auto. Not everyone can change a camshaft either.......

YES IT CAN SHORTEN THE CPU LIFE if you have never built a computer before OR if you don't know how to dissipate heat given all the tools I never had back in the day!
It can also shorten your life if you drop it into the bathtub while you are building it.

Besides, when intel and AMD leave such HUGE performance/price margins on the .25 and .18 micron CPU's, who can resist?

Hence, my motto: ONLY 'CLOCK EM IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR ARE DOING! Or you think you know. Or you can read a website word for word.
