A few things to try as well:
Look at these: http://www.roxio.com/en/jhtml/cdrdat...der.jhtml?id=3
"Yamaha CRW2100E - Due to changes in the later versions of the firmware for this drive it is likely to have compatability issues with our software. Roxio and Yamaha are investigating this. "
See if the recorder is on the supported list.
Since you said that it was Yamaha, and its a 16/10/40, I'm guessing model # is CDRW2100EZ - there is a firmware update available as well : http://solutionsnetwork.yamaha.com/k nowledge/SolutionView.asp?ID=040343048217965&QSOperationID= 170372078731547&ResponseID=080343048158825&
Try these things, and get back to us with a model number on the drive.
Almost forgot, you said NEW AMD800. When you say AMD, you mean a Duron or Athlon/Thunderbird processor? Let us know that too!

i;m using a duron
I had exactly the same problem.
My solution was to use win95/win98/winMe to burn the cds.
Just have to make a little alteration.
Right click My Computer, go to the performance tab, click "File System" and change the role of the computer to "Network Server", the default setting is desktop pc.
Not sure exactly what it does, but i understand it alters the cache somehow.
If your using WinMe theres a utility about called TweakME. That will alter the cache size for you aswell.
If anyone knows of a way to this in wi2k, let me know.
I'll just add my two cents to this, burnproof is a variation of variable writing and whatever they tell you about not being able to get buffer under-run you can.
Try using a removable device as the source for your temporary files, take it out whilst burning and lo you get under-run, so who's burn-proof now.
The most important thing is to find cdr software that properly supports your burner, you have tried the speed test included within your cdr software? Generally Yamaha Cdr drives are spot on and supported by all the leading software so look to your windows installation
we found the problem i dont know if it was in this forums ... i have to go into my BIOS and in my IDE for the CDRW (slave) I have to change it from Auto to "not installed" and BINGO it worked .. i tunred DMA on my system booted fine ... and i am now buring at 16 X with no problems !!!
:D
Yamaha CRW2100S {SCSI} CRW2100E {IDE}
drives are not true 16x wrters 10x rewriters. They start writing at 12x and speed up
to 16x. The drive pretty much is a 8x rewriter. The IDE CD-RWs have problems like buffer
underuns and more. The SCSI drives don’t have the problems.
I have a pentium II 350Mhz 256MB ram 18.2GB IBM Ultrastar 36LZX an Adaptec
2940u2w SCSI card and a Ricoh 7040s SCSI burner and I have never got any errors.
I use Nero 5.5 Easy CD Creator 4.03.
