I remember using "net send" at college which worked with 95 stations and an Nt server. You could write a small batch file or program, and give it an icon to make it a bit more user friendly!

It sounds like you really want chat capability. But for tons of things, NET SEND is great! I use it to tell my users, for example, that they've got infected files on my server. I like it because it pops up on their screen looking like a system message. Most of them don't even know that I wrote it, which makes them less likely to ignore it.
