Barry Nelson appeared in the 1954 TV production of the Casino Royal book, which was part of the Mystery Theater series.
Bob Simmons was the stuntman that did the opening credits "gunbarrel" shot for Dr No, which appeared on screen before Connery.
BUT if you really want to be pedantic, you could say it was UK TV's Bob Holness who played James Bond in the very first radio serialisation.
You might also want to read the alt.fan.james-bond newsgroup FAQ for lots of other useless information!

Sean Connery was cool. He wouldn't taake no S**t from nobody. Not even the women. He'd always be smackin them around.
Roger Moore is was just a big Player and he has to be admired for that.
It'll have to be a tossup between the two.
P.S. Timothy Dalton SUCKS

In order of preferrence:
Sean Connery
Pierce Brosnan
Timothy Dalton
Roger Moore
I've also heard rumors of a Bond candidate - Russel Crowe!

My vote is for Roger Moore.

I have to give my vote for Pierce Brosnan. I like Connery but Brosnan just fits the part in my book. It was nice to see Pierce getting a little more lethal and cold blooded in The World is not Enough. It kind of sucks a bond will not be coming out this November. Apparently Pierce is taking some time off and I believe he is currently working on another British spy film... wierd. But it will resume next year as planned with Brosnan from what I hear.
