Aye; I don't smoke, but I have seen packs go for $3 around here. Do the math; 2 packs a day is $6, which over a year becomes $2190!!!! That will buy lots of toys! :D
Anyway, good luck to all trying to quit! :) </strong><hr></blockquote>
They're about 4.50 around here, so it's even more expensive. And it just keeps going up. I'm starting to smoke myself into the poor house. hehehe

seriously though, I quit, it isn't easy and it took me years to do, but I finally did it.
The key is
If you fall and have a cigarette, it doesn't mean you're a smoker.
You are still a non-smoker, but you had a cigarette, don't have another one...
Don't say to yourself, I failed i'm a smoker again...
Just say oops I had a cig, now I need to go on with my life as a non-smoker...</strong><hr></blockquote>
Yea. I hope to be able to still have one once-in-a-while, but I have to be careful not to fall back into that pack a day habit.

Well, I know it's early, but the patch seems to be working.... I feel pretty confident because I'm already pretty much several days into it. The cravings aren't as bad as other times I've tried to quit. Thankfully I still have this medication from the surgery, and it's definatly helping "ease the pain"... I definatly think this is something I can do. Thanks everyone for the votes of confidence. Nice to see that all my WD friends have my back. :D :D :D :D

congrats on quiting and im glad everything is going good for you so far.

When I decided to quit I also had to give up drinking. The two were too closely-joined in my mind.
Keep it up!

You can do it QT!!! Here at the facility I work at smokes are $6.00 a pack! That in and of itself would make me quit, if I were a smoker. It's not much better down in Anchorage about $4.50 a pack. :D

i've smoked for 2.5 years and "quit" 3 times. i wish you the best of luck. i hope you have the strength to do something that i don't. at 4+ bucks a pack you would think people would be motivated to quit. i spend more on cigarettes than i do on gas and food. isn't that crazy?

That is the main reason I quit, too expensive. I started smoking right out of highschool - 1985 and was up to sometimes 2-packs a day. I will be 35 this year and will have stopped smoking over 3 years on my birthday. Do the math. I quit cold turkey - just put them down; it has been tough (my mind thinks I want a cigarette right now - but I know better) but if I can do it, so can anyone.

it's not easy but I smoked for 12 years (i started when I was 13 and smoked until last year)
But, if I quit, you can quit...

You sure it's not Lycia's motivation that is making it so much easier? :D :D :D

Giving up any addiction is hard, but if you want it, you'll quit. Stick with it and consider a swanky GF4 yer prize in a few months. The money you save from not smoking will easily make up for it.
-
I recently quit too. the first 3-4 days are the worst and now it's nothing.
Good Luck.

Congrats and best of luck!!!!
I truly envy you, been smoking way too long. Had to quit 7 months ago for medical reasons, made it a month until I moved in with my g/f. Now I have to convince her to quit before I will try again.
That or I will have to quit beer. And that just ain't happening.
Anyway, once again best of luck.

Think of the Queen's sister - Princess Margaret who passed away from complications of a stroke a few days ago. She smoked up to 66 cigarettes a day!!!
Now you know whay happened.
A sales guy I work with smokes up to 25 cigs a day. He parties and drinks alot. He's only 32. But he looks like a 50 something old man. He's now lactose intolerant, has a constant throat infection, calls in many sick days and has many migraines. Doctors keep telling him that he either cuts way back on smoking, partying, boozing and get more sleep or he'll be in an early grave. But it is up to him to decide when to quit.
I wish all smokers who wish to permantly stop smoking the best of luck possible.

QT, you can do it. I happen to now be one of those people who can smoke an occasional cigarette and never start the habit again, but way back when I was really smoking, it was hard to quit. I had better success by cutting back, but that was in the days before such helps as the patch. You will be able to do it! :) :)
