I was playing Sims for awhile, but lost interest. I might have to start back up again.
BTW, if you just want to use your backup CD of the original CD that you purchased (i.e. you copied your original CD and don't want to scratch it), then you must use the No CD software plugin. You'll have to search for it, as I can't provide a link here. This is considered third party software and is not guaranteed by Maxis.

when i get the game working again im going to make a nieghborhood of homosexual sims .

No, your sims work 7 days a week. :( But you CAN take a day off by just not showing up. You can do it as often as you like, as long as you don't take 2 days off back to back - you get fired otherwise.
Extra cash - you can build up your painting skills, then when you get to a 10 creativity skill, you can sell the paintings at $143 or so a pop. With the Livin' Large expansion pack, you can buy a wood working table, and make garden gnomes. Once you build your mechanical skill up to 10, you can sell the gnomes at $100 a piece, and make 3 in an hour.
Or the easiest way to get money - hit ctrl+****+c which brings up the cheat window. Type in rosebud and get $1000. bring up the cheat window again then put in !;!;!;!;!: which will give you $5000. !; together repeats the last cheat. Just cut & paste it and you can keep putting it until it fills the window - it think you can get like $30,000 or so in one shot that way. :)

Just my opinion, but maybe instead of closing an entire thread that may have illegal content in it, maybe just the illegal stuff could be edited instead. Some of the info in this thread for instance is very useful, and to close it completely would be a waste. But to just knock out the illegal stuff would leave open the useful stuff. Anyway, I could care less either way, but I'm just stating this for those who might.

push ctrl+shift+c
you'll get a cheat box
type rosebud, press enter
(this is the cash cheat)
after a cheat is entered you can use the ! symbol to repeat the cheat this can be done repeatadly
you can even seperate with a ;
as in !;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;
This will give you some fast easy money
but don't forget to pay your bills or the repo man will take your goods
