Guess I'm fairly lucky. I gotta leash but it's one of the cool ones that only go on one ear and not over ya head. Only a 2 walled cubicle in a heat/AC office with lots of nice women walking around. Sit here and cut up and tell jokes all day and get paid for it. And believe or not 98% of the people I work with are actually fun to work with. It's only a help desk job but the money's good and the environment is awesome so I'm stayin. :p
I'm stuck in one of those ugly gray cubes as well, so I've decorated mine with artwork, books, stuffed animals, comic strips etc. I was lucky and got (almost) first choice of cubes, so I grabbed one of two cubicles that are cut off from the rest of the row by support pillars. That means no one can pass by directly in front of the cube. :) I've begun to infect the person in the cube opposite me, he's started putting up photographs and comic strips, and his cube is starting to look like mine. :)
You guys are lucky. I'd love to have a cubicle. All I have right now is a workbench and a chair. We have a huge window wall, and people just stand there and watch us all day. Makes me feel like I'm in a fishbowl.
I have my own room with my own bench...the room is small (about 6x8)...but it's all mine!!!!
I share an office with a net tech. He has a desk and I have one. We've fondly called it the "Cable Cave"...'nuff said. But I also have a workbench in another room. I like it. I can hide from people in anyone of those places. Its the cell phone I can't hide from!!!
I've got an office with lots of windows. I stare out the windows most of the day, and whistle at all the women that walk by on the street.
There's a computer in there that I'm supposed to use for work and stuff, but I brought my TNT2m64 in, and now I play Black & White on it most days.
There's also a deck of cards and some pencils, and a paper shredder too. It's fun to stick pencils in a paper shredder. Oh, and there's a phone and an intercom, but the noise they make irritates me, so I unpluged them so I could plug my CD player and my hotplate in.
5x5x5 Cube ... Easy to do the Prairie Dog when you hear another tech punch the mute button and lose it. It's near the window and is turned away from the rest of the office so I can pretty much surf as I please.
I have a leash, but I've modified it to 100' long so I can pace about and built in a reliable mute switch into it. I got a dispensation to extend the cord otherwise I get fidgity at my desk and start popping bubble wrap or clicking bottle tops. That just drives my neighbour sooo nuts that he starts to throw stuff at me and loses track of what he's saying to the user. Once the user accused him of not paying attention to his needs :D :D
I guess I'm one of the lucky ones, at least I think so. I work in a gray cubicle, but it has an AM/FM radio, windows (2 of which open), a beautiful changing view which can range from desert to pine forested mountains. It also has A/C, heat, cruise control, AM/FM (no CD Player darnit). Yup, its my service truck.
I've been stuck in a small cubicle inside an office before, you can have it. Sure, I spend a lot of time on the road, but I'm out and about. I deal with irate customers, but watching the scenery pass by sure soothes worn, angry nerves.
The only time it sucks is when there is ice or snow on the road.
I have an office but I only get to see it in the mornings when I come in to get my list of service calls and then im gone and don't see it till the end of the day
I used to work in a poor office, now tHEy just remodeled new offices for our department, pretty sweet!
well...lets see...the roof leaks in the back where the bench is and the rain runs down the wall and the paneling is really wavy. today a rat was trying to get in my trash can in my cube...sucker was really fat. no one has cleened the bathroom in 2 years...i'm afraid to touch anything in there...guess i am gonna have to cleen it before the EPA declares it a Superfund site...phone system is flaky...the building is between other tall buildings so no radio reception...boss sometimes listens to easy listening...no view...cold in winter...hot in summer...yeh, its a joy.
5x6 cube with 3 PC's, 1 BIG A$$ compaq server, 2 monitors, a switch, a KVM switch, a laptop, radio reception that sucks beyond sucking, garbage can and no leg room (I'm 6'04") And to top it off I sit back to the window. AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
Around a 15x25 office with tv/vcr, stero, 3 systems, a futon and an oriental rug on hard wood floors. Bed in the next room and then a kitchen and bathroom a litte further down the hall. Plenty of windows too. And the comute to work is cake. I wake up and walk to the next room and start to work....
Although does suck when I actually have to go outside and then drive somewhere to fix a contractors computer or do something with the servers onsite instead of coding all day...
Grey cubicle walls. Easily watched by the boss. Taint that bad. Kinda like the place.
