The store did just that for the third MB, and I took it home and installed it like I normally would (after triple-checking the stand-offs), and it smoked also. Don't think the store would allow me to try it with a fourth MB. Maybe after the New Year, they'll forget, and I can try it again...... :D :D :DQuote:

What about the memory, is it compatible for the new board?

The third motherboard did POST at the store a couple of times. So I presume the memory was good - a stick of PC2700 Corsair. I'm still trying to figure out how I shorted out three motherboards.Quote:

sounds like some fun I had at camp last year...took an old compy, stripped what we wanted out of it, set it outside, turned it on, and lit the case on fire. compy worked well for about 30 minutes, then the capacitors blew, PS melted, and threw the main breaker at the camp. would have been great to have sparks fly with the flames.

could the back of the MBs have been touching (grounding) to the inside of your case? https://forums.windrivers.com/images.../2005/03/1.gif
