Yeah, what he said. They're always reading. And they don't eat meat! Wait, maybe that's a good thing.
Good point Clam. Unfortunately it's much like the war on drugs or the war on crime.... it's an ongoing battle. I don't think it's something we can "win" but we can sure make it difficult for those who support it and therefore make it a lot harder for the terrorist.
To the rest who have posted I must honestly say I didn't have time to read all your posts but I felt compelled to answer the mollusks question.
How does that distinguish them from the rest of the human race? :D :D :DQuote:

It'll never end.
We'll always have to "continue the war" against some unnamed enemy, somewhere.
That's the only way they'll keep us under control...read your Orwell.
I think the "War on Terrorism" is taking us down the same path as the "War on Drugs". In other words, a lot of money spent and lives sacrificed in the name of a war that has no possible ending. Like drugs, there will always be a desire for terrorism as a means of furthering religious and political causes that are hundreds or thousands of years old. Moreover, the War on Terror exploits many of the same fears among people as the terrorist causes. It is this type of demagoguery that results in violence and death, regardless of whether the demogogue is in a cave, a palace or the White House.
The real cause of terrorism is growing economic and politcal gaps between first-world and third-world nations. Citizens of lesser develop countries and ethnic groups are always going to feel they have to resort to terrorist tactics to get some of the things they need to survive. The first world (US, UK, France, etc.) is doing NOTHING to address this fundamental cause of terrorism. Sure there are US AID and other international programs, but these always have political strings attached designed to keep these nations locked into the cycle of dependancy and oppression.
The War on Drugs has not reduced the flow of drugs in the world one iota!!! Similarly, the War on Terror may have a short-term effect of forcing terrorist groups into hiding and seclusion. But their hatred of the first-world will only grow and fester until the pressure cooker blows and another 9/11 happens. The long-term effect will be a more severe reaction from these organization and coutries than we have ever seen before.
It doesn't matter how many dictators we kill or push into exile. For each one we kill there are 20 more waiting to take his place. We will never remove the animosity from the hearts and minds of the people of these countries until they feel they have a political and economic voice in the international political structure.
As for Iraq, I have mixed feelings. While removing Saddam from power increases the likelihood that a more democratic government will start, the continued presense and influence of the US and UK will not help that cause. The people of Iraq are already expressing their desire to see the Coalition forces leave the area and allow them to move forward with setting up their own government. I think the time is coming for us to hand over the keys to a legitimate Iraqi leadership, similar to how we did it in Afghanistan. Going forward, I think an open and strong economic partnership between Iraq and the Coalition nations will do much more to help Iraq move forward than any number of tanks or troops.
Just my $.02.
Ah yes that is a problem...the gods are considering alternatives now.....man thinks too highly of themselves I'm afraid....Quote:

The war on terror could end when every person reaches the level of imagination to understand how every other person feels and we finally figure out that violence isn't a solution. But, everyone has to reach that level and we ain't there yet so, I'll keep my .45 locked and loaded.
