[RESOLVED] Painting!!

I think the only prudent thing to do here is place the motherboard in the dishwasher. but instead of putting in dishsoap pour several ounce of paint thinner or mineral spirits . . . . better yet gasoline in the dishwasher, then run it through a full cycle. now once it's done, you have to get it fired up before any residue of remaining paint gets a chance to dry on the motherboard, so take it straight from the dishwasher (DON'T DRY IT OFF) and fire it up.

I'm pretty sure that should work. let us know.

Actually, Gasoline and dish detergent mixed in high concentration should do the trick. Put both contents into a gallon milk jug, 1 to 1, and be sure to leave plenty of room for shaking. Once you have it mixed, if you are still alive pore over Mobo, and keyboard.

Ok, I know the components probably came from Taiwan or Vietnam...but is this really necessary? BTW, I find styrofoam works better than dish soap :)

i think putting it in the washer with some orange stuff ( degreaser ) with hot water, small load and in delicate settings will do the trick.. then put it in the dryer, make sure delicate too.. :p

why do you have things anbout painting computers here then??????? Why put down you can paint it if you cant and then make fun of me? Don't you people feel bad for puting thing up that say that you all paint your computers and I do what you all say to do and now my computer is messed up and you all laugh. I don't think you are all very funny.:mad:



I guess I messed up bad then. From what you people are saying about me I think that this may have been not a good idea.

Such is life... you misread the instructions, copy others without understanding where you are coming from or going to, it is inevitable that mistakes are made on the journey.

I looked at all the "painting" threads we have here, and they are all about painting the outer (and possibly inner) sides of the case ONLY, i could not find one post, one thread about painting the actual electronics. It's also common sense to remove any electronics from the case BEFORE painting it. electricity and liquides do not mix, specialy with metalic paints (wich i might add are conductive)

And the keyboard? well simple fix, get a sharpy and write them back out.


Now your questiong about funny answers? it's quite simple, this situation is so odd, that most people would think that the original issue IS a joke.

Personaly, i don't believe anyone is as dumb as you are pretending to be. So I, like others, think the whole thing is a joke

You can paint your motherboard but you have to cover the slots. Also you dont use a metallic base paint you use a FLUORESCENT CLEAR COAT :rolleyes:

Yeah, I know about the micronized metal flakes. I do doubt they would actually create a conductive material as they are bound in the paint. I would personally think the solvents/chemicals in the paint might cause more of an issue though.

I was personally referring to the clear coating that one uses when sealing a mobo for use with a low temperature liquid cooling system. I'm not quite sure what sort of chemical one sprays the board with but I know it can be done - (reference Maximum PC and several systems using water cooled systems - they reported not being happy with having to spray the mobo with a clear coat sealant first). I'm just supposing that if you can spray it with one thing, there may be something else that could be used as well.

How is what Goku found, what you said anyway ? Goku's 'nutter' is spraying his with flourescent paint, you seem to want to seal the whole board against a watercooling system, all I have to say is if all you are depending on is a bit of varnish sprayed about the place to protect you from the inevitable bang of water on electric you too are a 'nutter', it goes around in pipes & hoses sealed up real tight, if you need to protect the board with varnish/paint you are in real trouble...

I'm not talking about watercooled systems. I'm talking about systems that use a compressor, similar to a vapochill or actually like the vapocill tom talks about. The coating for the board is not to protect it from water spills, the systems that use compressors and sub zero temps don't/can't use water. The coating is purely to protect from condensation. I found one vapochill article and it talks about coating the cpu with a water resistant paste but not spraying the board. The article did go over having to spray the board with a sealant and you would have to coat the board on the other side of the CPU as it's going to frost up and ruin the thing if you don't. ;)

As for goku's article - it actually proves that you can spray paint a mobo. Whether or not it is clear coat (http://www.clearneon.com/), it is still paint. Read his article, the guy did it without a hitch and I bet if brainey with the green metalic had done this it would have worked out for him too.
