As for Sammy the hit he took on the helmet was the second scariest thing I have seen in a major sport. Right after Lawrence Taylor snapping Joe Theismans leg like pretzel.
I think Sammy may have known what he was doing. He was coming back from an injury, wasn't hitting and had nearly been killed a few weeks before. I am not justifying it but heck half the football players and maybe a third of the baseball players are using illegal supplements. Since all the trophy bats that they have tested (for example espn tested the bat he used to hit his 497 home run) show up OK I say let him have his mea culpa and move on. Now lets start with the mandatory drug testing and see who really deserves a place in the Hall of Shame.
