Trouble installing XP Pro

Thanks for all the suggestions, I am trying each one. I got 3 diferent blue screens. First one saying something with pci.sys so I removed the pci modem card, went good, then after the partition process it bluescreened me with the 0x0000007E and no other info, I know this can mean a range of possible troubles, then I got a blue screen with acpi.dll, what the &%$# ? So to add onto my troubles I said "Let me do a BIOS udate", well if I can get the damn thing to boot from the floppy I would!! Sees the floppy but does not boot from it. Changed the cable, changed the drive, changed the floppy, tested the floppy, tested the drive, forced the boot from floppy Only in BIOS, still will not allow me to boot from it. So looked to call Intel, but the want me to pay for a phone call regarding a possible problem with thier new board, NOT. I heard that something in the BIOS under REMOVABLE DRIVES may help, I am going to try that tonight but any other suggestions would be welcomed. I am also going to replace the RAM. I would replace the CPU but I do not have an extra P4 2.6c/800FSB or Northwood to test with.

You can get alot of errors from ACPI issues. I've bluescreened alot on install due to that.

You can check and make sure you have the latest bios version, but in the meantime - try hitting F7 when it says hit F6 for SCSI drivers. This will disable ACPI and perhaps allow you to finish your install.

You got that little nugget from M$ didn't ya ? How to Force a Hardware Abstraction Layer During an Upgrade or New Installation of Windows XP

That's all fine & dandy if the bios is designed for xp, if it ain't all holy hell breaks loose on its first 'boot', afterwards.

Best, simplest way & SURE way is to simply either enable or disable the ACPI (as appropriate) feature in the computers Bios before any install ;)

Some general advice ... pull every damn thing you can first in any 'troublesome' install, don't come to the conclusion that anythings 'wrong' hardware wise until you've got those lovely chipset patches in place, but yeah my moneys on bad Ram too ;)

OK, got fustrated and changed the mother board to a Abit IS7-E, started the install and recieved a Award Boot Block on boot up. So I managed to get around that and updated the BIOS and had no troubles with the floppy since. So started XP install and got a Blue Screen Again. So I replaced the RAM, took out the Kingston HyperX Dual Channel and replaced it with Corsair XMS Platnium Dual Channel. Install went great. No Problem and the machine is now complete and running great.

So it seems to be the RAM that was the culprit of issues. Not sure if the original Intel Board is bad but I think I will RMA it anyway with the Kingston RAM.

Yay ... 'bad' ram ... problem sorted :thumbs:

But neither the motherboard nor the Ram may actually be 'faulty', maybe (& most probably if not truely 'bad') the default memory timings were just too agressive for that memory/board combo, hopefully you won't have any problems returning the 'extra' stuff you've aquired ;)

I need help. I've encountered stop 0x0000007E (0x0000005, 0x80818308, 0xF9EE0C50, 0xF9EE0950) error during upgrading from win98 SE to win XP Pro SP2. I cannot complete the installation as the error pop up during installation. Any solution?

i've tried and change the memory with Kingston 266mhz 128mb DDR SDRAM, but the problem still exist. Help me...

Whereabouts exactly ? & any preceeding messages .. describe how far it got through setup before doing a bsod, & indicate whether you choose to upgrade from fat to NTFS or not..

I had the same pb (0x7E on pci.sys at windows startup or from install cd, after mb upgrade to se7525gp2), and after many upgrades (bios, ...), tests, tries, activ/deactiv,... i had always the same bull**** pb :flame: ... And I've no xp with sp2 install, i've a lic for xp without sp ( :butt: )
Finally i have found your page, and i try an xp reinstall with repairation, with your tip (F7 key), and I 've chosen "MPS Multiproc..."... And it works (just a little pb during reinstall, a dll to unreg not found with a msgbox to hide a lot of times...) ... for the moment... i haven't tried yet the drivers update.
And now I have a problem with xp activation, i've totally forgot to backup my activation key(cf rockXP), i'm good to call ms... can't at all (except in safe mode) log on. :flame:

Finally, it works fine but, after reinstalling xp in "MPS multiproc", it seems there is no way to change to ACPI, to activate acpi and hyperthreading :mad:... For all others drivers updates, there was no problem. To upgrade to this type of mb, the best way stay to install XP integrating SP2, but it will wait... It's already cool :)

If anyone knows a way to change to acpi multiprocessor in xp without reinstalling it, i am interested !
