I have similar but different.....I have
older asus p2bf w/pIII600
576 ram
SB live value
usb 1.0 w4xhub, ati remote wonder and HP printer
Ati all in wonder 7500 64meg
SCSI 2940 UW w/2x 18gb cheetahs, tosh cd-rom, zip 100
IDE maxtor 13, 12, IBM deathstar 40, Yamaha 20x writer
USB 2.0 ALI 2xport pci W/maxtor 120
The Max 120 powers up autoplays, window opens and I can access the drive.... Then it just stops accessing totally and dissappears from "My Computer". Power it off / on then works again....then it stops again....it can run fine for 20 sec or serveral hours. Sometimes it will "bing-gong" then re-init all by it's self, "bing-bong" again. I had a plex writer 712a in a 2.0 case and the drive functioned fine as far as the interface until the drive stopped reading DVD's, but continued to read CD's fine...
Welcome to WD forums Youssef so that says to me usb drivers &/or irq isuues.Quote:

We need details of the motherboard please to advise specifically..

Ooops sorry indeed you specified motherboard, but you managed to answer my supplementary anyway  - latest bios gives us best shot !Quote:

As to your zip drive, which is apparently scsi (IDE ones are the worst due to dma issues) - own controller or plugged to your 2940 ?
Zip is running on 2940. The reason I did not go pci controller is because I put on in and it would not boot because it had to init first....surorise ...the scsi has to init first as one cheetah is C drive. when pci ide was in higher slot it would not go past post summary screen. what else can I tell you? All other usb 1.0 devices work perfect.Quote:

Can you just clarify for me what usb ports this board has ? I'm confus-ed by the use of your word 'hub' ! Are you saying this board has one usb 1.0 port or 4 ? & two usb 2 ports or 2 added in ?
& are you also saying it doesn't work right via either of these lots of usb ports ?Quote:

As follows::
MB : 2 ports (1.0)
port 1 to hub :4 ports (1.0)
ati remote wonder and HP printer.
port 2 empty.
PCI USB 2.0 card : 2 ports
port 1 to Speed metal external HD case (2.0).
port 2 to external Plex DVD writer 712a.
This unit is not mine but has been plugged in from time to time and has work on those 2 or 3 occasions.
I think you probably need to free up some IRQ's to try & simplify matters here, just to confirm for me first .. look in device manager & confirm how many 'host controllers' show up & also a note of whats sharing with what IRQ wise please (in device manager click your computer name & then view, resources by connection)
What devices can we likely free up in bios ? Do you use your parallel or serial comm ports ? They are usually redundant & give three free IRQs back to simplyfy any sharing arrangements, do you even need your usb 1.0 ports on ? I think if you can use your spare port in your card for your hub & just turn the onboard ones off completely ?
