OK, what you must now do is write down in a way you can understand, what they told you to do, so that if the worst happened, you can do it again.
Now, filesharing. To enable each computer to share each others files, they must have permission to do so.
In xp pro you have two choices. The guest account - an insecure account that requires no login, but does enable the shared folders to be read.
The better way is to do the following
Assuming that your two machines have names, lets say Beavis and Butthead.
Beavis has two accounts, Beavis and a new one you must create, call Butthead.
Same goes for Butthead, it must also have an account called Beavis.
XP works better if both of those Accounts have passwords.
When you have set both those up, you should check the my network places (may need a reboot, and can take up to 12 minutes to show up). In there you should see an icon for Beavis and and Icon for Butthead. They both should show both computers.
XP has an automatic shared directory, which you have found, but you were looking on your own machines shared directory, not the other machine.
So to look at the other machine's shared directory, you double click the other machines name. If you are Beavis, double click Butthead. This should then show you the shared directory. Double click to look in there.
OK, so you want more shares, that's pretty easy. Right click on a folder you want to share, click sharing. Click make new share (always do this even when there seems to be a share there already). Name your share. A hand will appear under which ever directory you shared. Then the other machine will be able to see that share.
Get that far, and post with your progress, ok?
