unfortunately not, my engineers have the directory structered according to some internal schema that I am not party to. There are about 600 sub-directories based on numbers that are all based off a reference sheet that they have, hence I need to be able to search the sub-directories.

How about a simple database? The result of the search could be in hyperlinks....
