Thanks for the reply i understand but all i asked you was if you knew where i could get or find did not expect you to give to me.
I've had the same problem four times already on my p.o.s. Satellite S504. Listed below is the gist of how I hacked the Toshiba recovery CD so that it doesn't check what machine it's intalling to.
The first Toshiba recovery CD (for the Satellite S504 at least) has a file on it called RECOVER.BAT. What you want to do is extract the CD's ISO, edit that file, then burn a new image. I'm working from memory here, but basically my RECOVER.BAT file had a section that looked *something* like ..
@rem check for bad machine
getmodels %MODELS%
if errorlevel = 1 goto BadMach
and I edited it to look like:
@rem check for bad machine
getmodels %MODELS%
@rem rorlevel = 1 goto BadMach
Voila! No more DMI headache!
I used the PowerToy by Alex Feinman to extract the ISO, and UltraEdit trial version to edit it. UltraISO also looked promising for the editing.
Thanks so much that all makes sense to me i just wonder why error keeps occuring? Oh I'll try it out.

Did you read the entire thread?
As to why this has happened, it may be due to a hardware fault, but it would be impossible to guess.

I install another windows. from a friend. windows xp professional. i format the harddrive with fdisk. can this cause "Wrong machine"?
It's very important to me to know if another windows cd install may cause the DMI change. Now it's "Portable PC". not "Satellite 5005"
And when i boot first recovery CD it's "Wrong Machine" :(
HELP ME! IT'S URGENT! PLEASE!

did you read this post properly before you posted or did you just do a google?
the question you ask has been clearly answered for you ,,,
QUESTION
Where can i get this utility that you were useing to reset DMI settings on wrong machine erroe message. I am trying to use my restore disk and get this message but i have had no hardware changes So any input or help on this issue would be appreciated and where i could find utility maybe you could send it to me if small enough.
ANSWER
take it into any authorized service provider. They should set the dmi for you for free. If they want to charge you, call Toshiba and get a case number.
QUESTION
Am having the same problem. Did find the following from toshiba:
ACPI Flash BIOS Version 1.70 for Satellite 5005-S504 released by Toshiba on 7/16/02. Does anyone know if this will work to reset the DMI?
ANSWER
it shouldn't. You need Toshibas DMI updater utility. Only an authorized service provider or Toshiba themselves has it.
QUESTION
where can I get the DMI utility? I have the same issue and Toshiba insists on charging to reset the DMI.
ANSWER
It's only available to Toshiba Authorized Service Providers, not end users. Go here
then click on "Service Centers" to find one near you.
so it has been clearly stated that the way to sort this problem out is take it into any authorized service provider. They should set the dmi for you for free. If they want to charge you, call Toshiba and get a case number
hope this solves your problem
Hi Guys:
I managed to procure a copy of the utility which changes the DMI setting for the model. Does anyone know if there is a way to just run it from a command line so this process can be automated?

sbwilli if you are not an authorised dealer you are not allowed to use the utility.
