Err don't get all uptight - (who said anything about muttering?) I can't possibly know everyones history or be aware of what they do or don't know, its one of the weaknesses of how these boards work .. hopefully you haven't taken too much offence to anything, to appreciate that I will help if I can ;)

On your list of processes how about just for a bit turning off your text to speech stuff in office - ctfmon - big fat resource hog & wants to send stuff off throught the net etc on that doctor watson thingee for sens networks ..

Also ati2evxx is one of them 'why did ati include this stupid thing' type whatsits - its off on my beastie.

& if you've got vmware running all the time then I'm not at all surprised you've got system lag .. Don't you think running another o/s inside your current one is gonna 'strain' things ? I do anyway ..

& what processes are running there ? Safe mode xp/w2k style ain't like in 9x ..

Loads of stuff still gets loaded up ..

btw the system is very quick...just the mouse stalls

for example photoshop 7.0 loads in under 9 seconds

could this be a power issue?

usb power issue? Yup, if the board is not supplying the require 500ma then it could cause this.

i have the same problem but i have a usb keyboard as well. I am running an msi k7n2-delta-l and a true 430 ps with a barton 3200+. and my usb ports drop and come back intermittently :\ its upsetting. did you fix the problem if so what was it and if not anyone help me fix it :)

It was faulty mice after all.
I had tried 3 older ones.
I bought a MX500 and havn't had a prob since
