Hi guys,
Well it seems I've been chasing my tail for nothing. Turns out the owner of the camera sorta remembers there being a problem with the camera after he purchased it. When he intially returned it for repair they said there was a problem with the i-link, but he never got it repaired as he needed the camera straight away. So he asked me to get it checked out again. To which I did.
The result, the "VTR MAIN CBA" (some circuit board Im told) needs to be repaired, and would cost over $700AUS to fix! Bugger that for a joke! I can get a new camera for that price!!! lol
So Im trying to find a camera to borrow to do the job.
I would like to thank all involved for your help & support. Its been great!!! :thumbs2:
I never thought that a near new camera would be at fault! Especially seeing as the i-link has never been used before!!!!???
Again thanks for your help guys, no doubt you'll hear from me again once I get a WORKING camera connected.

Well I have finally got a hold of a working camera. A brand new Sony handycam to which it worked perfectly; once I figured out to connect and turn the camera on before starting my computer.
Downloaded all the footage onto my computer, which took over 4 hours, for 2.5 hours of footage, but hey, I got there in the end.
Now all I have to do is edit and burn it onto a DVD. What a load of fun I have to look forward to now huh? lol
I just have to figure out how to make menus like an original movie in Sonic MyDVD.
:thumbs2: :thumbs2:

I'm having the same problem as BUDZZ with my Panasonic NV-DS99 video camerer, but I have a Dell Dimension DE051 computer, 2 x 512mb ram, a Xsonic IEEE 1394A firewire card, and I'm running WIN XP service pack 2.
I tried following the steps that BUDZZ was given but they don't seem to apply to WIN XP service pack 2.
Can anyone please help me out? Thanks.

You tried the patch? http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=810032
You tried it on someone else's computer? Sometimes the firewire chip on the camera itself is faulty.
-
Yes I did, I got the same error message as NADZZ did.
No I haven't, that's a good idea. Thanks NooNoo. I'll get back to you with the result. :)

Okay, so I've borrowed my mates Samsung VP-D305i video camera... and I still can't get it to work.
Now what do I do? o.O
-
so you plugged a different camera into the firewire socket?
What does device manager say about firewire?
The DE051 doesn't exist according to Dell - but I can find a bios update for it!! So what is the service tag?
First thing is to update all the chipset drivers and look at the bios and firmware updates.
Do you get any recognition at all from the samsung? (is the samsung turned on and in playback position?)
-
Actually, I can't see firewire in the device manager. o.O I got it installed a few days ago by the people at the computer shop, so It should be working and everything.
(EDIT: Device manager has recognised my firewire, and it says its working fine and everything.)
What do you mean by service tag? I'm a newbie at all this computer stuff, lol.
No I don't, it's turned on and everything but like... nothing. It's weird.
-
how to find the service tag
What does device manager say about your firewire - the name and type please.
-
Service Tag: C8DPH18
The firewire is.....
IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers
-------- VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller
-
That service tag does not exist - can you check it please?
you can check for yourself here
You said computer shop - but Dell doesn't have shops - is this a 2nd hand one?
Have you been to windows update and got all the available updates?
You see, firewire just works - sometimes there is a problem recognising what the device is that has been plugged in, but the fact that something has been plugged in is always registered. If you open device manager and leave it open and then plug in the camera, does device manager react by refreshing? If not, I would suspect the firewire port is faulty.
-
Okay, I got it working. There are three ports on the firewire card, and for some reason it would only work when I used the middle one. It was in one of the end ones while I was trying to use it.
Weird, huh.
Thanks for your help anyway NooNoo, I appreciate it! :)
