One other thing. When I insert the Gigabyte disk and press go to install the chipset drivers instantly I get drivers installed click to reboot. Nothing changes.
Is there a few drivers I should uninstall that the disk can fix?

So which motherboard is in it now, Gigabyte or Asus? You won't be able to use the Gigabyte's installation disk for the Asus, or vice versa.
If the system still has a Windows installation that was originally done on an older board, but has had the board changed and driver updates attempted, that would explain why you're having so much difficulty. Windows would still be installed to match the previous board. This can often be corrected by an over-the-top reinstall, but as you say, this can't be done using the install disk for an an earlier version of Windows.
Re-formatting the drive and doing a fresh installation of Windows should enable the correct support disk to set up the right drivers.
I did that.
This is a new OS. I already registered it after I was told I could register it on my PC and laptop but I have found that is not true.
So it is not registered.
I loaded it and tried this computer out. Service pack 1 is an older version I have which I might use - better if I can register it I guess.
Sorry for being confusing - gigabyte is my motherboard.
The sis driver - I got this error when loading installation files for XPL
UpdateDriveForPlugAndPlayDevice
X -536870397
Thanks
I will try a clean format when I get another copy of XP
There is nothing at all about this error... so yes get a legal copy of XP and try again.
sorry, didn't mean to sound like I am trying to use an illegal copy. I read about the problem - media controller with yellow astrix and no drivers to help - and they had an updated copy. I am in no hurry to put in a final copy unless I know that I don't have a harware fault.
OK media control, let's start again. Please answer these questions.
This is onboard sound?
What motherboard make and model?
Do you have the cd that came with the motherboard?
What operating system do you want the drivers for?
NooNoo
1). Gigabyte - 8s661fxmp-rz (writen on the board)
2). Yes I have the disk - Gig - SIS Motherboaerd utilities CD TUCD Ver.2.5
(I mention the details as I have had a few gigabyte disks over time)
3). I will keep running XP. I assume Home addition will do for me.
I am pretty sure I have moved all the files from from three hard drives to a starage hardrive, but I am checking that first.
I don't want to configure my settings, install software etc too many times.
I don't think that the TV card will work, though the modem is now working and I haven't set up the TV this time.
Thank you
OK, so the drivers for the sound are on the Gigabyte cd or you can download updated drivers here
Do you need help installing the drivers for the sound?
What is the make and model of the TV card?
