boot off xp cd then do second repair option make sure you use same user name and saME VERSION OF XP THEN THAT SHOULD REFRESH YOUR XP THEN GET ALL UPDATES AGAIN.i HAVE DONE IT MULTIPLE TIMES AND WORKS FINE.

I'm having a problem with a pc that the XP SP2 was installed in. I can't get SymantecAV to load. I've already turned off the XP firewall. The PC in question is on a network but everytime I get to the choose server screen, it reports that it can't find the server. How can I get around this?

I had the same problem with my laptop when I installed SP2 except mine locked up during install. I couldn't uninstall SP2 since it wasn't fully installed. I just booted up my system with the XP disk and did a repair. Everything was seemed to be working ok and then I reloaded SP2. It worked the second time. The only problem I had was that the USB ports were not working. Reinstalling the drivers fixed that problem.
