On topic: CeeBee, I'd expect to see someone like you start around 35k if you were desperate, 40k if you had a little more time to look. In the right place, you'd be at 50k in no time. And as I said, that's good pay around here.

The fact is that I cannot complain of what I make now, I know it's well above average for a network admin in my area (CT). Yet comparing my skills and what I do as development beyond standard admin duties to others making about the same I know I could be making more... My boss thinks the same and has pushed for more, but when it comes to raises the upper management seems to have a slightly different view :sad:

I've thought several times about moving to the Seattle area (live in Wenatchee, WA) to try and find a higher paying job, but I enjoy the slower pace of where I'm at. I have enough stress and pressure from the job, that I don't need to deal with those things when I leave the office (which is like 2 minutes away from my house).

Howdy IT TECHNICAL PEOPLE

i am a convicted felon , i have a major back problem,i have no certs yet , should i gain a++ certs and look for a job. or just be the hometown computer guru?with federal dissability benifits?
i have a high school ged ..i used to be able to fix cars , and electronics {light ****, easey fix's i dont get too envolved its not worth it}

i can fool around with linux and maybe get samba working other then that im a lamer with 'nix.

windows i can get around good in dos or cmd . i can network puters amd have some experiance with win nt 4 and win 2k&xp ...

harware is my strong point as i cant program to save my as , except for dos bat files etc..

i am not joking on the above like who is going to eaven open the door for me to let me fill out the application or accept my resume' ?
like now when some one gives me a grunt job i just grunt walk away and take some pain killers or muscle relaxers...provided i get a good job with job security i may be able to share the above's as a fringe benifit{lol} ..

Personally if i had an it job and i diidnt come home anting to go back to work with my postal workers uniform everyday i think if the company was up to snuff on treating thier workers like humans and not rental cars . i would be encouraged to stick around ... and ask for a raise ..

sorry about the above ramblings the muscle relaxers go real good with orange juice and coffee and give this buzz ....

I can't imagine getting much of any IT job with nothing more than a GED.

I swear, since I decided to stay here until I get my bonus money, my phone has been ringing off the hook with head hunters suddenly finding my resume from back when I was super pissed off and looking.

I have to disagree with that, For me GED and thats it. Been in the IT industry now for 12 years, and I make more than double My wife who has a masters degree in teaching. A degree does not always mean you are qualified for a postition.

I'm just north and east of Seattle and have a 1-1/2 mile commute so the to and fro part is pretty gravy, it's the rest of the driving thats' nuts. Great thing about this side of the hill is it never gets too cold or hot like you get.

Well, that's not too bad. The weather is so different on this side. 105 in the summer, -10 in the winter. Very little rain and lots of sand. I tell people I'm from Washington, and they instantly get the image of green, rainy Seattle. They have NO idea.

The difference in weather on the two sides is what makes vacationing so great here. It can be raining and in the 50's here and in an hours drive it will be sunny and in the eighties. Nice.

You are one of the exceptions. There are a few like you, but it is not easy to get into the IT field without some paper to back you up.
