So [without me having to look it up]whats the tradition behind eggnog or is it like Christmas cards,trees and Santa a commercial product?

Actually, I never touched the stuff until a few years ago when I was at a party at the in-laws, and my father-in-law had made a batch up that had 7 different liquors in it - boy was it good, and packed a wallop!
