& btw an interesting statistic is just how many American police get killed & hurt with their own weapons This by way of example as I can't find a link to back me up, but the figure that sticks in my mind is 50% but that link clearly indicates the downside of introducing a gun in an effort to control matters ..

Catching someone with my belongings in their arms is enough evidence for me. If that makes me Islamic that's Ok with me. I don't believe that any single religion is right about everything, but more likely that each religion is correct in some beliefs and wrong in others. The Islamic folks know their stuff when it comes to thieves.

I really don't think adding more police will solve the problem. The guy who got caught stealing my car had a multiple page rap sheet of prior offenses. So if you add more police, sure they might get caught more often, but what does that solve if they are just let right back into the general population? Spending a month or several months in jail is not a deterrent to these guys. Jails nowadays have cable tv, broadband internet and college courses available to them for free, not to mention the three steady meals a day, a warm place to sleep and they don't have to work.

Why should they be following the laws again?

In all honesty neither do I ;) but shooting folks as 'prison doesn't work' ?

I think this is 'one of those' - so where I know I'm right in saying you can't allow folks to go around shooting folks because 'they thought that ...' BUT I really want to agree with the notion of shooting the Mother F.ers !

Whats stopping me, is that owning a gun here is far more regulated than 'there' - (us having no bears in the woods that need shooting or believing that we live in the wild west & its therfore our 'right', 'somehow', incase our government oppresses us or any stray Red Indians intent on scalping me come calling ) & 'wanting to shoot burglars with it' - I don't think will get past the licensing authorities as 'reasonable & required usage' ..

So I'll have to settle for chucking them out of a first floor window, like last time then ;) !

generaly as noted in the article killing the intruder is considered excessive force. also as police are trained to shoot for central mass and most fire arm owners will do the same this is pretty much the result of using a firearm to "defend" one self so you will almost always be brought up for excessive force resulting in death.

the same can be said for a cast iron frying pan to the head, the definition of excessive force is so wishy washy that any time the cop's have to use any kind of force the perpitrators defence lawer will latch on to it and try to dismiss the case on those grounds.

Wake up one moring... hmmm someone stole my car... click the big red button on the really nice transmitter and start walking towards the black smoke rising in the distance.

Or maybe just enough to blow off the axel? the only problem with this is possible collateral damage...

Now that u mentioned that.. how about a tazer wired to a beeper or a cell phone placed under the seat? blowing C4 blows the car...

That word 'instinctive' is new ;) & makes a great deal of difference ! & whatever ' I'm a Liar' Blair has to say, it was never & still isn't in the original legislation, but it has been changed in the CPS (crown prosecution service for our American cousins - the guys who decide who gets charged with what) guidelines on what should be prosecuted & what's not - however if it gets infront of a judge he'll still apply the same reasoning as before - so more spin ! :rolleyes: What a surprise !

Tony martin went to Jail for two reasons over & above 'reasonable force' - the most important was that his shotgun was held illegally, but also he chased after the intruders (edit: come to think of it, he set traps for them too) which isn't allowed either under the revised CPS guidelines or the law as it stands (which according to the Law Society is 'wholly inadequate' but as Cherie Blair thinks she's Ironside or somebody (being a QC) she is probably the PM's advisor on this & not her governing body !)

for some reason "traps" on privte property translate as a public safty hazzard to the lawers.

I remember heraing about a guy that knew the crooks were jumping his 6 foot yard fence. his solution was to place boards with 4 -6 inch nails in them in the "landing zone" as evidenced by the boot marks left in the garden from the last break in.

Next morning the police are at his door asking about the contents of his yard and that any materials matching said description be removed for public safty. when he asked why they told hime they had recived a complaint from a fellow with several very large deep holes in his feet who happend to confess to a rash of B and E's when the police questioned his precense in the offending yard (given the last 3 break and enters).

the one instance I can think of where the cops used thier heads, and the system worked with minor tweaking. But this was 15 years ago, now they would not bother asking, and just charge the home owner for the public safty hazzard.

this is all just another example of how the police are not fulfilling their prole anymore. I personally fund that the police focus more on trafic laws than they do on crime. Over the last few months i've been pulled over almost every time i've been the dd when i go out with my friends. I'm stone cold sober, and am not driving irradically at all. However i'm a young man driving a red car (it's only a bloody cavalier for god sake), so they chose to harass me. Usually it's just them being *******s, but everyonce in a while they'll find any excuse to give me a ticket. They have just been fines so far as they cannot find me doing anything illegal. But i'm getting pissed off. Pull over the real drunks or go find the people who are actually committing crimes and leave the law abiding citizens in peace.
