Nah, the Windows driver won't work for your Ubuntu machine. Trust me.

You'll need a generic wifi card driver designed for Linux to make it work for Ubuntu, because Linux drivers and Windows drivers are not the same, and don't work in the same manner.

Thanks for pointing that out. But I was planing to try it with ndiswrapper.

If you're going to use ndiswrapper, make sure your distro of Linux supports it, and if you're using Ubuntu, make sure it's listed as a usable application for your package/version. If it isn't, it won't work for you, no matter what you try.

I have tried to install this driver via the HP website, but despite being logged on as an administrator, I get the message "you have to be logged on as an administrator" and the driver installation aborts.

Can anyone help?

springbokrugby, the driver in question is NOT at the HP site (edit: at least not for the subject mobo).

Nevertheless, with that message, try this: download and save the installer and right click on it and set it to run as Administrator.

I have tried this, but get the same message.

Then your Administrator Priviledges have been compromised.

I would suggest a rigorous malware hunt (anti-virus, anti-malware).

Before starting that, copy off anything you value to external media (drive, cd/dvd. flash).

Hello there,

I'm hoping someone can help me, because I've been searching now almost a week :(

I have an HP Pavillion type: W5080.be, I'm running windows XP and since I reinstalled it, I can't get the wireless to work anymore :(

Can't seem the find the driver ( WN4201B ) anywhere... it annoyes me I can't find it on the HP site :s

Any help would be much appreciated ;) :-)
