ATA or SATA? if ordinary ATA, then it uses an ide connection. A SATA uses a Serial ATA connection and will require drivers on the xp setup... press F6 to load the drivers from floppy when you see the message at the bottom of the screen....and of course, the bios must be configured correctly.

Thanks NooNoo. I believe I have A serial ATA connection. I'm assuming I'll find the driver on the motherboard CD (Asus A7N8X deluxe)
However, I could do with some guidance in exactly what to do.
Thanks for your continuing help.

The instructions on what to do are with your Asus manual - you can download a copy from ASus. I would love to tinker with SATA, but that will have to wait till I win the lottery.... so I couldn't tell you exactly what to do, 'cos I have never done it. So anyone with SATA take over please?

 NooNoo / confus-ed. Re-booted using windows upgrade CD. Also found and used SATA RAID driver. Windows repair run successfully. Just to make sure, connected camcorder via usb, whilst install was taking place. Repair ran successfully, but subsequential reboots very slow. Now re-installed SP2 via download, and PC reboot now alot faster. Camcorder now appears to work fine. The initial slow speed of booting must have been caused by a conflict of files. I would say in my experience if possible to uninstall SP2 before re-install of basic XP. Hoever thanks to you both for assistance.
Until the next time......

Glad you got it sorted. Next time or anytime.
